Slow Burn is my first K. Bromberg novel. I was a little concerned going in that, even though this is a standalone, I would've missed something crucial in one of the first four books and it would keep me from truly enjoying this book. That wasn't a problem at all. The author did such a great job filling in any potential holes that I didn't feel like I was in over my head. Of course, I plan to go back and read the first books in the series because I enjoyed this one so much, but I didn't need them to understand what was going on here. 

I went into Slow Burn with no pre-conceived notions and no idea what had happened with Haddie, Beckett or any of their friends in the past. I was totally ok with this, too. It didn't take long to get the lay of the land, so to speak, and learn more about these characters. I liked Haddie. I wanted to love her through the entire book, but she made it kinda tough at times. I don't want to get spoilery here, so I have to tread cautiously when I discuss my feelings about Haddie. All I'll say is that while my heart broke for what she went through with her sister – and the fears she had as a result of that situation – I wished she had stopped pushing people away. I know she was dealing with a lot, but so much of it would've been better had she shared the load with someone else. Lots of people loved her and would've been there for her in a heartbeat, but she kept pushing them away. I get it... but I wanted to sit her down and talk some sense into her before she screwed up a good thing.

Becks was pure freaking gold. He was sexy and unexpectedly sweet. I loved his filthy mouth. Rawr. But, most of all, I loved how he wore his heart on his sleeve. Even as Haddie pushed him away, he tried to get closer. (But, in a non-creepy way.) He was just amazing and swoony and all the other good things. I loved the relationship he had with Colton – and I can't wait to read more about Colton in the earlier books in the series. I loved their bromance. 

It caused me pain to put this book down once I started. I loved the characters' inner dialogue and the banter between them. I definitely got a few chuckles along the way. The sexy scenes were smoking hot. No matter what was going on with them, there's no denying Haddie and Becks had *serious* chemistry. Slow Burn was also full of unexpected feels. I was in it for the long haul with these characters. And boy oh boy, was it a bumpy road. I felt all the feels and shed a few tears, but finished the book with a smile on my face. It doesn't get much better than that.

This might've been my first K. Bromberg book, but it won't be my last. I'm anxious to tackle her backlist and read the entire Driven series and I'll be expecting more fantastic books in the future.
