There was never a dull moment in this penultimate installment of the series. I loved the addition of new perspectives. Until this novel, the story was told completely from Jess’s point of view. In Smoke and Iron, Jess’s perspective alternates with those of Khalila, Morgan, and Wolfe through the majority of the novel. While I was fully invested in all four strands of the plot, I finished the book with a new favorite character: Khalila. She’s absolutely amazing. The poise she maintains in the face of the absolute worst situations is astounding. I adore her. But honestly, I’ve come to love all of these characters over the course of the last four books. I can’t wait to see how the story ends, because the stakes have never been higher.

Ok, I've been a huge fan of The Great Library since I randomly picked up the first book, Ink and Bone, forever ago. I absolutely fell in love with the characters and the story back then and it's been mind-boggling that every installment has been just as good, if not better, than the last.

This book was no exception to that rule! Jess and his friends are back and all the shit is hitting the fan! This book dumps you into the action and keeps you in it's grip for it's entire length. It's incredibly fast-paced even though the action is more about intrigue and craftiness as opposed to brute strength. You feel the danger that is pressing down on everyone throughout the book and there are moments when it takes your breath away! My favorite thing, though? All the different perspectives that we are treated to in this book! You get to see into almost every one of the core groups' brains and it's marvelous! I continue to love these characters so much and I just need all of them to be okay, damnit!

*cough* Anyways... so I clearly enjoyed this book! The ending was a bit rushed to me and a tad too neat. Which, considering what happens, probably sounds insane to people who have read the book, but I can't really explain it without spoiling all the things! Suffice it to say, I didn't *love* the ending, but I still loved this book. And you KNOW I'm gonna devour the last book as soon as it comes out! I'm so excited (and scared, lol) for it!
