Spider-Gwen Vol. 3 Long-Distance
Reviews

Too much hype for nothing...

4.5 stars I love her so much. But getting used to her universe is a bit jarring.

Spider-pig?

While I'm still a DC girl I have been enjoying Marvel. Gotta say, their characters tend to be more snarky than DC and while I love the Bat seriousness sometimes you need someone who's going to mock as good as Young Justice Robin while they pummel the guy. When we lost Gwen in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 I was super sad, but then I heard about this comic. I knew I'd love Gwen being Spider-Man--now Spider-Woman--and I was absolutely right. She's awesome. I love seeing her trying to find her way, and having her guilt over events I have yet to figure out where to read as it happens (someone please let me know what comic to pick up), it adds an edge to her. Gives her a reason to keep trying. This felt longer than Ms. Marvel, though whether that's accurate I doubt. I dunno I felt that all the sorrow and guilt Gwen deals with may have added more layers to this comic than Ms. Marvel has yet to add. Also since this is an origin story is doesn't throw me into the deep end like every other Marvel comic I've picked up has done save perhaps Deadpool 1, although even that while a starting point actually has him as a hero in his prime. This however is an origin like Ms. Marvel with Kamala Khan, but doesn't throw you into the midst of all these different heroes. It's just Spider-Woman and her city of New York. I think perhaps that makes this truly a good place to start in Marvel better than all the others. Maybe if you love the movies and know a lot about the Marvel verse (or like m have friends who do) then you could start with any of the others, but this is really a beginning and I recommend it higher than any other save Ms. Marvel. It very good, and I can't wait for volume two.
