Her head hurt and her chest felt hollowed out, as if she’d lost more than just her memories.

For a second the agony was so deep and so brutal, she clutched her heart, half expecting to find a jagged hole. But there was no wound. Her heart was still there; she could feel it beating.

Madame Voss's eyes went wide. "Your Highness, are you all right?"

'No!' Evangeline wanted to scream. 'There's something I've forgotten and I need to remember.' 

Last night she'd convinced herself she could just let her memories go. But now it was clear that she'd been kidding herself. She knew Apollo had warned that regaining her memories would only hurt her, but some things were worth hurting for, and Evangeline believed this was one of those things.

"You're right. You keep saying Jacks is the villain. Yet you just let a man attack me with his pet bird in order to hunt another man down and kill him. You also told my guards -who aren't very nice, by the way- not to let me leave the castle, despite promising me you'd never lock me up. So, no, I don't know how much of a threat Lord Jacks is, but I'm starting to see you as one."

Evangeline's reaction to the potential news was immediate. Her expressions were always so easy to read. Earlier he'd seen he unease; then he'd seen her fear, her anger; and now as she bit down on her lower lip, he could see her curiosity. She was the moth and Jacks was still the flame.

"Wait!" Evangeline called. "What's your name?"

But once again, his thoughts weren't projected loudly enough for her to hear.

Instead, he gave her the name he'd planned on. He knew she wouldn't remember it, and he needed to make sure he didn't forget it. "You can call me Archer."

She scowled. This only made him grin wider. Which was worse. He had dimples. Unfair dimples.

I enjoyed this series a lot and I’m sad it’s over.

Everything that needs to be in a fantasy book is in this series, and maybe it won’t be everyone’s type of romance but it was amazing and insanely addicting for me. Setting is amazing, the ambiance, and it’s delightfully easy to read. 

For book 3, there are bits that I hated but they’re more towards some of the characters or some turn of events. Everyone is stubborn and I both love and hate it. The chemistry between Eva and Jacks is out of this world, and if you don’t agree with me or don’t appreciate it THEN SUCKS FOR YOU- am just kidding (maybe) 

The last of this series! My initial thought is “woah I finished it, it’s done!” and now it’s “how do I move on from this?” I officially declare that I will always be jealous to anyone who’ll be reading this series for the first time!

loved the ballad of never after and was hoping this final book in the trilogy would have the same impact as ballad but unfortunately it did not😞 it was still good but i didn’t feel as into the story as i was during ballad. maybe it’s cause i was reading it more than a year after i read ballad??? just didn’t hit the same but was still endearing and im happy with it

Tied things up nicely while leaving the door open for future tales for other characters.  I love the setting of these books (both these 3 as well as the 3 Caravel books) - slightly grown up fairy tales that feel lyrical to my brain.  😍

In love 😍 Stephanie Garber writes so well and had me balling my eyes out at the end of all three books in this trilogy. The amount of plot twists that happened near the end of this book is insane. I loved every second of it.

Honestly kinda all over the place and random? Felt like a lot of the overall storyline was just rushed and not fully answered about certain things

I loved it and am satisfied with the ending... however, I feel like there's a lot of plot holes or more potential for all the characters. For instance, Evangeline has the ability to open doors but would it be possible to extend beyond that? What's the history of the fates? What are the Valors planning? What happened to Luc and Marisol? So many questions! I wish they extended to a 4th book or made the last book at least 200 pages more. Loved it overall but I will always hope for more in this universe!

I also really loved Evangeline, she may be my favorite female protagonist in this bookworld, although I also really liked Scarlett. It’s a good ending to the series and I very much enjoyed reading this book.

I am really going to miss these characters and I hope we get to see more of Chaos and Layla, maybe together?🫣
