Supernova: 4/5 β€œEveryone has a nightmare.” He pressed his forehead against hers. β€œMaybe I want you to be mine.” The third and final book to the Renegades Trilogy ended with a bang. Supernova is the best in the series! This incredible finale is full of emotion, development, and a killer plot. Premise: Tensions between the Renegades and the Anarchists are at an all-time high. While Nova struggles to decipher right from wrong, the threat of Agent N is descending upon all prodigies. Still trying to keep their identities secret, Adrien and Nova try to stop an all-out war while being on separate sides. β€œOne cannot be awed who has no soul. Just as one cannot be brave who has no fear.” Writing & Plot: The first part of this book is 100% action, and it slows down towards the middle but picks back up at the end. I find this case with a lot of YA fantasy, and the ending was so epic that the middle didn't bother me much. This book doesn't only have an incredible plot, but it comments on prison reform, abuse of power, worker's rights, and more. It was written extremely well in a world similar to our own, yet so different. The whole premise is very morally grey which was a struggle, but at the same time, it makes the book so much more complex and endearing. On the other hand, I guessed the final plot twist from the first book. It is a bit predictable but still enjoyable all the same. "What if the lines weren’t so clearly drawn? What if she wasn’t either a hero or a villain? What if she was both?" Characters: Previously, I had issues with Nova's character since I thought her motivations were pretty weak, but we get to see the manipulation she went through in this installment. There is a final scene in Supernova where we see Nova getting pulled every which way from the people she cares f0r. I feel like I understood her better in this installment, but at the same time, she believes anything that she's told. There were some eye-rolls in this book, especially at the end, where I felt like Nova wasn't as strong as she usually is. Adrien shined in this final installment. He has been excellent throughout the entire series. Still, as he "sees" more and more of Nova and learns more about her, he increasingly gets more complex and overall is a more enjoyable character with every sentence. Finally, I wish we got more Oscar x Ruby content. Conclusion: Supernova is a fantastic conclusion to the Renegades Trilogy. Meyer sets up a spinoff series through the epilogue, and if it ever sees the light of day, I will 100% be reading it. Although some pieces weren't the best, overall, the story is fantastic and is worth the read.

THERE WERE SOOO MANY PLOTTWISTS OMG

At first I was a bit sceptical about this final part of the Renegades series by Marissa Meyers, but hooooly shit.

We, of course, knew that Nova = Nightmare and Adrian = Sentinel but they didn't know this from each other so I was very afraid this book would have a massive miscommunication trope. But it didn't :D.

The first part was very confusing, but the final battle was so good I loved how they were like "no more heroes, no more villains".

But I really want to talk about the epilogue. Adrian and Nova, Ruby and Oscar, and even Danna and Narcissa all got their happily ever afters, love that for them, but the epilogue was written from the pov of Maggie? Who had a bullet in her pocket? Because she survived an attack as a baby? MAGGIE = EVIE???

I am confusion. America explain.

It was a phenomenal ending.

This whole series is amazing. Honestly. I had never read a superhero-villain story before, not in that comic DC/Marvel way. But after reading this ones, if anyone knows similar ones let me know! Because I LOVED them. The first two I read last year in less than a week, this one took me a little longer because I had to get hooked on the story again... Reconnect with the characters, and I did. Even with those I hadn't really liked that much at first. My one and only wish for this series is for it to be done. There's absolutely no need for a fourth book, be it the same storyline with a different main character or not. (A POSSIBLE SPOILER) Magpie gets to share her p.o.v in the epilogue, and there's almost space for her to get a book... But, personally, I would hate for that to happen.

Was that it for the ending?? I would've like to see more of the aftermath from the big battle especially Nova and Adrian's relationship in the end but whatever. Wtf was that epilogue?? I feel like I would've liked it more if I was into the genre of superheroes and action but overall, it was an entertaining series

a few months later: i've bumped this rating down since i read it from 5 stars immediately, to 4 a few hours later, to 3 stars about 2 weeks later, and now,,,,,,, 2 stars. this ain't it. i'm leaving my original review below but yeah i think reading this trilogy completely solidified for me that i'm done with het YA (unless someone explicitly recs it to me) bc this was such a waste of time and emotions lol. ------ after finishing this and letting my emotions settle a little, i think i had two things i looked back on and was like "hmm" about (i put them below under spoiler tags), so i feel like i can't rate it a full 5 stars even though part of me wants to. also maybe it was my own fault, but i kept looking back at the cover waiting for a scene like that to happen and it distracted me a few times? (WHY DID IT NEVER HAPPEN? WHERE IS NOVA WITH LIGHTNING BOLTS COMING OUT OF HER HANDS ...) that being said, this book was FAST. PACED. considering it was the same length as the first book, which took me a MONTH to get through, this went by in a flash. so much happened, and it kept me guessing, wondering what would happen next, and i really liked it, i couldn't put it down. i'm kind of sad it's over tbh because i really enjoyed reading this trilogy and loved all the characters so much. except ace. FUCK that guy. one thing that bothered me: (view spoiler)[the moral dilemma with all the characters felt kind of ... forgotten in this book. or at the very least, not really discussed anymore? that ending erased any good v evil discussion entirely!? and this felt ESPECIALLY highlighted with nova in this book. nova, in jail, crying but still being like "i've been framed~" was like. wtf you doin girl? and then later on when she tells ace about the bracelet i LITERALLY put my hand to my head and was like "oh my god why" ... she had a perfect opportunity at the SEVENTY PERCENT MARK to start to show signs of Doubt.gif but she DIDN'T. that was so incredibly frustrating i started to get annoyed with her until she killed honey, but that was like. the 90 fuckin percent mark. my dudes. i wish we'd seen the emotional impact with nova sooner, and we'd seen what's on the cover of this book or something, nova with the electricity coming out of her hand. that doesn't happen, and i wanted her to fight more. i wanted her to have a moment where she could say "no, enough, i'm fixing this for everybody" which is why the scene with her saying no to ace in the tower but then IMMEDIATELY GIVING AWAY CRITICAL INFO was such a letdown. stand up, girl? wtf??? nova was the unique character that had the influence from both sides, she was the one character that had the capacity for compassion for everybody. the only other character that could have had that was adrian, but it was never taken there. nova's platform felt ... super wasted to me. i'm disappointed. (hide spoiler)] the other thing: (view spoiler)[while this book was so fast paced in a good way, it also gave me whiplash a few times, and i felt a bit exhausted by it at the 50% point like "where is this gonna still go/what was the point of the first 50% if that's undone now?" and that frustrated me a bit. looking back, i kind of can't help but feel like ... that could have been part of book 2, and so much in book 1 and 2 could have been cut out instead. idk. it read SO fast, so it didn't linger, but still. i think overall this series suffers a bit with pacing issues. it's not a huge detracting factor for me ... but looking over it as a whole, it is there. so idk. (hide spoiler)] the more i sit on this and look back, the more holes i find and the more this turns into swiss cheese. i'm conflicted with my rating tbh bc actually ... it's probably lower than 4 stars, i keep thinking of criticisms. but idk i think if i think only about my enjoyment level while reading, that was really high, so i'm leaving my rating at 4 stars. trying to suspend my more critical reader mind here, bc it IS essentially a silly superhero story, lol.

** spoiler alert ** i have so, so many things to say. so many topics in this book that i would like to dissect but i am in no mood to talk about them all. my frustration boils down on the idea of heroism and the fact that the council is still standing. if society were to be changed, the chain of command needs to change too. it would be far more meaningful if the council falls alongside with Ace, and that superpowers no longer exist or at the very least, the renagades should be no more. they are part of the problem too.

IMPOSIBLE. AsΓ que sΓ, ahora voy a leer fanfics porque no puedo aceptar, me NIEGO a aceptar que no voy a volver a leer a Adrian y Nova. Pd: Lena, siento no haber llorado en el epΓlogo, si te hace sentir mejor, estoy llorando ahora <3
