Reviews

I have read this book in less than 24hrs. I really liked it and I’m excited to read the other books of the serie!😊

Not my type of book, but it could be fun to read.

This book really brought me to a new world. Dystopian and fantasy merged and I am just amazed. The development of the vocabulary really did emulate the development of Juliette’s moral fibre and I’m so here for it!!

I’m really interested to read the rest of the series

It was so good, I am 100% finishing this series.

(3.9/5) pretty much an easy read, was kinda boring at first but its getting better towards the end. didnt get me engaged with the characters as i hoped but the dystopian/fantasy plot is interesting enough for me to keep reading. guess i'll continue the series next time! *the warner’s mind chapter >>>

An amazing read!! Could not put it down!!

he was so down bad like desperately

I don't really have a lot to say honestly. It's different, that's for sure, but i felt like not much happened. It's good enough to make me continue reading the series but it's definitely not going to be an all time favourite.

A bit slow at first but by the end of the book i was ready to go out and buy the next one.

I found myself really invested in this book. Now, let's talk about AARON WARNER. I have to admit, NOW I CAN SEE WHY THERE’S SO MUCH HYPE SURROUNDING HIM, He's a character with depth and complexity, and I found myself falling for him (just like everyone else lmao) Well, Moving on to the "dystopia" aspect of the book. I have to say, I was a bit disappointed. It's marketed as a dystopian novel, but it doesn't really deliver on that front. But anyway, I really enjoyed reading this. Rate: 3.5

** spoiler alert ** 3 full stars for this book ! first of all, for non-native english speakers i'm BEGGING you all to read it in english. it's sooo easy and the covers of the books are better (italians we know) i finished it yesterday and i've thought about what i have to write since i've put it down. SO, let's talk about the characters first ! — JULIETTE : i liked her at the beginning of the book, i think she's so pure and she definitely has a good soul, but in the middle and at the end of the book she was a bit annoying, she always said the same thing and c'mon we're tired !!! but i know that her character will be amazing in the next books !! — ADAM : at the first i loved him, he was so careful and sweet, but then he became soooo annoying and obsessed with juliette and he treated her like she was a child :/ and that's what i hate the most — AARON (warner) : at the first i was a bit scared of him like "who is this phyco man ???" but THEN. then he became my husband like for real. and in the parts that he wasn't i missed him like A LOT. and the way he treats juliette (😭😭😭💗💗💗) i want him I NEED HIM !!! — KENJI : he is just a silly teenage boy and we love him for that !! (yeah for sure his jokes aren't always okay but we know... men) ok that's what i think about the most important character in the first book. now the plot !! it's cool, like i see the vision of the author but i think she hadn't written it in the right way, the book is too short for the ideas of the author; and in the epilogue it was like some pages are missing or something. i definitely can't wait for read the novels and the other books !!

Loved it, but at the beginning a little boring but in the end it’s very addicting and interesting.

Definitely loved this book, it’s the first book of the series and I’m looking forward to the rest of the series, can’t wait to read more of Juliette, Warner and Adam. AND KENJI!!!! THAT MAN HAS MY HEART♥️

THIS. WAS. SO. BAD. I wouldn't have been able to finish this if it hadn't been for the audiobook and even that made me cringeeeeeee . The writing? God, awful. I can't believe this was actually published. And the metaphors!!! The author uses so many unrelated, nonsensical analogies and similes. Some were well thought of but most of them were awkward to read. The plot? Um... What is that? The definition of the word must've been lost in translation cause i don't think the author actually knew what a plot was supposed to be. It seems as though the whole plot was this teenage dude names Aaron Warner. And boiiiiii did he suck. Like really. How the f— is he so popular on booktok??? The characters!? Juliette is a teenage babe. I can't with her. She's overdramatic, powerless—despite having a lethal touch— and whines about warner and how miserable she is. *eyeroll* I just can't stand her. Also let's talk about the fact that at many times she asks/begs to be killed but then regrets and fears for her own life the moment Warner threatens her. Like... The incoherence baffles me. Surely, despite the plot being non-existent, the characters at least would be well fleshed out, right? Right????? I'm sorry for the rant but these things just had to be said like gurlllll i just bingeread this cause i didn't want to deal with it anymore. Also i won't be rereading the sequel anytime soon— i promise you that.

made me gag

This book was extremely YA and the first dystopian book I’ve read since starting this reading journey
I completely agree with other reviews I’ve read that there are so many convenient things that happen in this storyline and the whole thing seemed to happen really quickly in terms of the world/ plot building and the romance. The two main characters fell in love so so quickly and it just seemed so rushed, I don’t know whether I’m just used to the more slow burn themes of most fantasy books but it screamed teenage first love romance to me which is just cringey.
I will be continuing the series to see where it goes but I can’t promise that I’ll read all of the books if they’re similar to this one

2.5*

I was craving a dystopian novel and this book did satisfy that craving. Though the writing seemed too poetic and forced at times to the point I was jarred out of the story. Also there were many times where something big would happen in the plot but something conveniently would be there to fix the problem. Like they need to run away but there just happened to be a jeep there with keys in the ignition and supplies in the back. It just made it eye roll worthy. It was fun while reading but not worth the hype.

I hated 90% of it. Book twitter made me read it.

I’ve been stalling this book since my friend recommended it to me last year, so i decided to start with it this year. I still don’t understand why people dislike Warner in this book. I mean he’s not that bad. The only thing I didn’t quite like in the book is the use of metaphors. Like it was a lot. Juliette describing Adam’s eyes; … calm, unflappable; … 2 buckets of river water at midnight. … perfect shade of cobalt, blue like a blossoming bruise, clear and deep and decided … bottomless blue … blue and bottomless like the deepest part of the ocean … a shade of blue in a midnight sky … two pools of perfection, open honest, humble And this is not even all. I got tired at some point but I’m glad I listened to the audiobook instead of reading. Reading it would’ve been a hassle. The narrator made it way better. A 4/5 🤞🏾

Possessive is not a strong enough word for Warner.

“What’s your first name?” I ask him.
We’re standing in front of my door.
He stops. Surprised. Lifts his chin almost imperceptibly. Focuses his eyes on my face until I begin to regret my question. “You want to know my name.”
I don’t do it on purpose, but my eyes narrow just a bit. “Warner is your last name, isn’t it?”
He almost smiles. “You want to know my name.”
“I didn’t realize it was a secret.”
He steps forward. His lips twitch. His eyes fall, his lips draw in a tight breath. He drops a gloved finger down the apple of my cheek. “I’ll tell you mine if you tell me yours,” he whispers, too close to my neck.
I inch backward. Swallow hard. “You already know my name.”
He’s not looking at my eyes. “You’re right. I should rephrase that. What I meant to say was I’ll tell you mine if you show me yours.”

Warner doesn’t seem to understand that I grew up with nothing and I didn’t hate it. I didn’t want the clothes or the perfect shoes or the expensive anything. I didn’t want to be draped in silk. All I ever wanted was to reach out and touch another human being not just with my hands but with my heart. I saw the world and its lack of compassion, its harsh, grating judgment, and its cold, resentful eyes. I saw it all around me.
I had so much time to listen.
To look.
felt

I know him.
I’ve tried so hard to stop thinking about him.
I’ve tried so hard to forget his face.
I’ve tried so hard to get those blue blue blue eyes out of my head but I know him I know him I know him it’s been 3 years since I last saw him.
I could never forget Adam.
But he’s already forgotten me.

“So why won’t you tell me your name?” He leans forward and I freeze.
I thaw.
I melt. “Juliette,” I whisper. “My name is Juliette.”
His lips soften into a smile that cracks apart my spine. He repeats my name like the word amuses him. Entertains him. Delights him.
In 17 years no one has said my name like that.

I don't remember what it means to breathe. I never ever ever knew what it meant to feel.

"I'm oxygen and he's dying to breathe."

an unmistakable tension in his arms. "You can just kill me- "Juliette," he says. "Please."
AHHHH OMG IM GONNA THROW UP IM SO EXCITED
