Stein's most famous work; one of the richest and most irreverent biographies ever written.

wanted to like this after giving up on tender buttons really quickly. gave up on this 2/3 in to start on toni morrison because life is too long to read mediocre white women (also, i mean, when there’s annie ernaux, this stuff is just archaic and a little vapid, interesting only because of all the famous people stein hung around with).
