I loved the last 30% of this book so much! It really wrapped up so many storylines. 

This is a trilogy that you really need to read all the way through. Book 1 opens up all kinds of doors that need to be looked through during the second and third books. Some sections seemed to drag a little while reading, but the payoff was always worth it. 

I grew to love (and hate) these characters and the world is just so interesting. I could see this being a great TV show on Hulu, Apple TV, etc. It has a connection to things in our world (military campaigns, overturning monarchies, revolutionary wars, etc) but the magic elements create such a neat expansion of what you would normally find in a period piece. 

I will definitely read more from Brian McClellan in the future (there are more in this series, plus more in other series that he has done). If you like Brandon Sanderson, you will enjoy these books. If you like historical fiction but wished that armies had magic riflemen and wizards who could shoot fire from their hands... then this might be the perfect series for you!

I have to say, McClellan stuck the landing.

The emotional beats were handled best.

I think it was a bit rushed at the end, but that's fine.

I have a sense of closure, but still feel like some questions were not addressed. Overall I'm satisfied.

Also I'm ashamed it took me til now to link gun powder, to cocaine. It's literally fantasy cocaine.

Great Finish to a Great Series 
Great Lead in the next three books set in this world Characters that I have loved and Adored

(view spoiler)[ I hate when a book introduces someone in the very end and tells us that they were the real bad guys all along with the introduction of Brute and His secret twin sister in the last 300 pages of this almost 2,000-page Trilology just seem rushed, it would have been better if they were discovered at the end of the 2nd book and killed in this book.
