A cross between To Kill a Mockingbird and Stand by Me (movie) the events in this book take place during the depression in a rural town in East Texas. A serial killer is brutally murdering women in the small town. The town deals with these murders in a racially biased way. The book is a mystery and a coming of age story. Not only for the narrator, Harry - but also for America as people deal with their deep seated prejudices.
