When I finished The Selection, I found the kind of open ending a bit annoying, so I immediately started The Elite. I was hoping this book would focus more on the rebel attacks, and on Maxon trying to eliminate more people and that we'd finally find out who was going to be the One at the end of this book, unfortunately I was yet again a bit disappointed.

This book was just as exciting as the last one, meaning that it wasn't really that exciting at all. There were two (or actually three) more rebel attacks in this book, but like with The Selection, we spend it in shelters. There was only one scene where we found out more about the rebels, when America fled into the (apparently massive) forest inside the castle walls. Seriously, this forest must have been huge, because she actually got lost. She ran so far into it that she couldn't find her way back to the castle anymore. For that entire scene, I just kept asking myself how big the forest must have been. Anyway, she encounters two of the rebels who are carrying a lot of stolen goods from the castle... Books. They stole books. That does not sound that exciting at all?! I imagined them stealing jewels, money, and all kinds of other valuables; but books? (Okay, books can be valuable but still).

Then the other exciting part was a whipping. Because on of the Selection girls was a bit naughty. I will not tell you which character it was, of course, but let's just say I was really surprised! This was also the scene where I started to like America a bit more, because of her reaction to this whipping. But I think the book revolved too much around the love triangle, which is something I hate. I was hoping for more frequent (or at least, more violent) rebel attacks and we got only one more than the previous one (and those first two attacks were by the same group of rebels, so it kind still was only one rebel attack).

The rest of the book was a bit, well, disappointing. It was a lot of America crying (seriously this girl cries A LOT) and going back and forth between Maxon and Aspen. Because then one moment she'd be like 'Maxon is perfect for me', and then Aspen would appear and say something and she'd be like 'Aspen is even more perfect'. Even after the whipping scene she fools around with Aspen, like - did you learn NOTHING from that? I bet next time the King/Maxon won't be that friendly and you could be killed! But what does America do? She meets Aspen in hidden places all over the castle. Stupid stupid stupid. And she just kept doing stupid stuff throughout the book and I was kind of surprised that she wasn't kicked out (yes I already know how the last book is going to end, but still). In fact, I don't think any of the girls was eliminated in this book, or did I just miss something? (okay, the girl who was whipped was send away obviously but other than her).

Even better, when she sees Maxon hanging around and going on dates with the other girls of the Selection, she gets mad! Because Maxon confessed his love to her, and that means he can't do stuff with the other girls. Yeah, you're still in the Selection girl, he hasn't chosen you yet. And besides, with you being so stupid to him, he'll have to go through his other options right? This girl is really... UGH!

There were some nice parts about this story though. I still liked Marlee and Maxon (apart from some minor parts, but yeah every character has flaws). And the fact that this book was just very simply written and very easy to read; I finished it really quickly and I felt like I just flew right through. Unfortunately, that didn't really make up for the rest of the book, but it also wasn't so bad I wanted to give it two stars. I will read The One, and I might try out the two available novella's, but this won't be one of my favourite book series.

If you enjoy The Bachelor, you should definitely check out The Selection series; if you're not too big on love triangles, you should avoid this series. Avoid it big time.

This was an okay sequel to "The Selection" which I loved when I originally read it. 
I enjoyed this book for the most part, but I absolutely hated the way America bounced between Aspen and Maxon, and the way she ended Marlee's presence in the competition was rather cliche. 
I was mildly disappointed in how the story progressed until it got to the last 40 pages or so, and then in picked up nicely and there was more intrigue to the story.
I can't wait for the last book of the series, and I do hope that it is better than both of the first two books!

Meine Meinung: Da ist er endlich! Der finale Band der Selection Reihe. Ich habe das Buch wirklich mit sehr gemischten Gefühlen gelesen, was einzig daran lag, dass ich zum einen wissen wollte, wie es mit Eadlyn endet und zum anderen nicht endgültig mit der Selection-Welt abschließen wollte. Nachdem uns aber der vierte Band, Die Kronprinzessin, so unwissend zurückgelassen hat, musste ich natürlich direkt mit dem Buch anfangen. Die meisten kennen es sicher: Hat man einmal angefangen, dann kann man nicht mehr aufhören und bei Die Krone war das nicht anders.
Viele haben ja etwas gegen Eadlyn. Das konnte ich beim Lesen von Die Kronprinzessin zwar nachvollziehen, mir ging es dort aber schon nicht so, wie vielen meiner Mitbloggerinnen. Ich mochte Eadlyn immer schon auf eine ganz andere Weise, die nichts damit zu tun hat, wie man eine beste Freundin mag. Charaktere, die große Wandlungen durchmachen müssen brauchen anfangs einen Charakter, mit dem das möglich ist und wäre Eadlyn anfangs nicht das zickige Mädchen, dann wäre sie im letzten Band nicht die, die sie ist. Ihre Entwicklung ist greifbar und verstärkt sich in Die Krone auch noch einmal enorm. Wenn es nach mir geht, brauchen Bücher keine perfekten Protagonisten. Mir sind solche lieber, die sich entwickeln, wandeln, zu einem besseren Ich werden. Genau so ein Charakter ist Eadlyn, deshalb war ich mit ihr immer mehr als zufrieden.
Ich habe es schon einmal in meiner Rezension zu Die Kronprinzessin erwähnt und dennoch muss ich es auch noch einmal hier hervorheben: Dystopien enden viel zu oft mit einem Happy End und man geht als Leser davon aus, dass alles nun gut ist und dass ich das neue System durchsetzt und allen in eine bessere Welt verhilft, das ist es, was wir annehmen und so war es interessant zu lesen, dass die Revolution von Maxon und America nicht unbedingt dorthin geführt haben. Es gibt immer noch vieles, was nicht funktioniert und Unzufriedenheit auf allen Seiten. Ich finde es toll, dass Kiera Cass uns hier mal eine unerwartete Sicht auf den dystopischen Staat nach der Revolution gegeben hat und Eadlyn ist nun die, die zusammen mit Maxon vor diesem Problem steht und es hat dem Buch neben der Selection ein tolles weiteres Thema gegeben.
Die Selection. Ich muss zugeben, in Die Kronprinzessin habe ich Maxons Selection sehr vermisst. Die Dinge, die passieren, wenn man viele Mädchen auf einem Haufen um den Prinzen kämpfen lässt, sind viel spannender als das gleiche genau anders herum. Mädchen sind anfälliger für Dramen, Intrigen und vieles mehr und ehrlich gesagt mag ich auch nach Eadlyns beiden Büchern Maxons Selection immer noch mehr. Dennoch mochte ich auch die ganzen jungen Männer, die wir durch Eadlyns Selection kennengelernt haben und die große Frage des Buches, die für ordentlich Spannung gesorgt hat, ist natürlich: Für wen wird Eadlyn sich entscheiden. Die Auflösung war schon im vorherigen Band irgendwie klar aber dennoch sehr spannend. Ich hatte zwar einen anderen Favoriten, mir da aber nicht so viel Hoffnung gemacht. Trotz der Vorhersehbarkeit konnte mich Kiera Cass aber noch mit einigen kleinen Dingen überraschen, die ich sehr positiv fand. 

Fazit: Der letzte Selection Teil ist für mich zwar der schwächste der gesamten Reihe, aber trotzdem noch grandios. Besonders Eadlyns Entwicklung hat mir gefallen und auch die vielen kleinen Dinge, mit denen uns Kiera Cass trotz des vorhersehbaren Endes immer wieder überrascht hat. Mit einer Menge Tränen in den Augen nehme ich Abschied von Eadlyn, America, Maxon und allen anderen und kann nicht anders, als mich bei Kiera Cass für die vielen tollen Seiten bedanken.

this series is addicting, i just read this in a day and i’m already wanting to start the next one so bad!! it’s getting so intense and aggravating. america AND maxon are frustrating me so much, first of all america needs to stop being so indecisive and selfish, i know she’s the most selfless selection there but she’s so rude towards maxon, and i get it, she’s not the only girl there so it’s hard which is why it’s so overall frustrating 😂

Just like the last time I read it, I loved it! America is a great heroine because she is strong, but she also isn't going to force herself into making a choice between Aspen and Maxon just because they want her to make a choice. She decides for herself and doesn't let either of the boys push her. I love that she's a red head because I feel like that is something that is often not covered in lots of books. I also like that she is a 5 and that she knows what it is like to struggle so she would be a good leader. She also doesn't really want the crown and is in last place as far as popularity with the Illea population. Another thing I like about the story is that Maxon and Aspen aren't fighting over her they both just want her and Maxon even has a second choice ready. I can't wait for The One and to see how the story ends. I hope she ends up with Maxon!

These books just make me feel good. Of course they aren’t like mindblowingly good and life changing, but they make me feel all the feelings.

Edit: changed from 5 to 3 because this second book annoyed me more than the first and it was just more back and forth that I signed up for. However, I am excited to see what book 3 has in store. I won’t be reading books 4 and 5 because it follows a different timeline and I’m not that interested.

It was confusing when America was continually indecisive about choosing either Maxon or Aspen. I don’t understand Maxon at all. America’s smart at times but forgets the resources she has. Near the second half of the book, America gets quite inconsiderate and whiny. It seems she and Maxon have a lot to work out. The ending was a bit wicked. 🧡

My review: Book two was much better than book one. I thought it would have to be. I’m happy to say I was wrong about Marlee. America was a much less annoying lead in this installment. I didn’t like the way Maxon came across at all in this book, but I didn’t like Aspen either. He got annoying. I still hope America ends up with Maxon, if only to anger his dad

The story follows America and her journey to deciding if she wants to be princess and her feeling between two boys.  All while there is the have and have not outside the palace which has caused a group to want to bring down the royal family.  Then there is Maxon and his decision on who he wants as not only his wife but the queen. There were 35 to start now there is only 6. Is America the one or is she not?  

This story line is good, but Americas back and forth and her juggling the feelings of two boys hearts is annoying.  I also think this book could have been cut down, at times its like it's stuck on replay.  Only minor changes go about each day and each girl does the same thing.
