This one was the hardest to get though of the whole series…told from both Amy and Dorothy’s perspectives, it did a good job of ending the story but also leaving an opening for a whole new adventure for Amy!!

I really liked the ending of this book, up until the second to last page. I felt like she should have just ended with Amy and Nox being happy in Kansas going to the dance. I thought the premise of the book was interesting, but I felt like most of it was unnecessary. I thought the Nome King was a weird addition to the story, but I liked what happened with Dorothy. I think the ending mostly made up for the rest of the book.

The problem with introducing Ev as the endgame for the series is that Ev has always been the post-apocalyptic neighbor. The royal family is missing — trapped by the Nome King, minus the king who drowned himself. The kingdom lies in ruins, with only one of their many mechanical creations still functioning (Tik-Tok). Ozma of Oz is essentially the early 20th century version of Wall-E.

That was one of the most perfect and satisfying endings to a series that I have read in the LONGEST time. I only shed one tear!! That is a record for me! 

Amy Gumm is going to be added to my list of bad ass favorite female protagonists. And she is also one of the few protagonists that never annoy me ONCE in the entire series. Danielle Paige wrote such a beautiful and relatable character. Her personality was consistent but her growth throughout every book was astonishing. She had her dark moments and she had her good moments and through it all I liked her. 

The only thing I didn't like (not enough to dislike the book) but I wish we could learn more about what happens next and what happened to the other characters. It was a bit of an open ending but I'm still okay with that because besides that the ending and the book and the series were just satisfying. It was such an amazing journey to Oz and back.

I’ve had mixed feelings about this series from the start - so basically, to wrap things up, here are things that I loved and things that I didn’t love so much. 

Things I loved: 
1. Amy’s strong personality. I didn’t like her at first, but she grew on me, and I enjoyed her snarky but heartfelt point of view. 
2. Nox. Give me a tall, dark, and handsome magical boy and I will fall in love with him 100% guaranteed. 
3. The descriptions of various Oz locations. Vivid imagery is definitely a strength in this series. 
4. The calls to the original Oz books. The author clearly did a lot of research and reading and did a decent job representing all of the classic characters in a new and interesting way. 

Things I didn’t like: 
1. The rushing. A lot happens in all these books and it all happens a little too quickly. The last three books were all less than 300 pages, and they could easily have been longer. And if you’re not gonna make them longer, just shove everything into a trilogy. We didn’t need four books. 
2. The throwaway characters. There were a lot of characters in here (like Polychrome in book two and Lang in this last book) that get quickly introduced last minute and then discarded when it is convenient for the plot. This made it difficult to get attached to any of the characters. Rarely was I invested in their storylines. 
3. The ending?? Was not good?? For many reasons?? It was way too convenient for me. I won’t be explicit, because spoilers, but geez, it was just sloppy and not well thought out at all. 

I think I would have enjoyed this a lot more if I’d read it at a younger age, when I was a less critical reader and I didn’t pay as much attention to the dislikes I listed above. So I guess I’m recommending this more for younger readers - say, middle school or early high school, not so much college. But I still enjoyed Amy’s journey and I’m glad I read this books, even thought it’s difficult to articulate my thoughts about them.

DNF at 170 pages.

I only had 100 pages left of this book but I just couldn’t do it anymore. I should’ve stopped reading this series at book 2. I wish I could’ve finished it because I do want to know what happens but obviously not enough to actually keep reading. 
I could tell that this book was better then two and three because we got to see Dorothy’s side of the story and more about other characters. I just stopped caring about the storyline.

           I have sped through the Dorothy must die series like no other series before. I was put off by the reviews of the books that followed the first but I have loved them just as much. I was worried that (as a 24 year old) I would find the books childish but I got completely swept up!

I can’t believe that we will never find out why Amy has to go back to Oz! But when Nox was in Kansas I honestly could have screamed with happiness! I am so gutted that I have come to the end of these stories (although I’m going to get the novellas at some point), purely because I will never be able to find out what happens now. And I don’t think I will ever look at Wizard of Oz in the same way. What a brilliant set of books!

I really enjoyed the first book. The second and third kind of blend together for me, but they were still better than...whatever this was. 

A significant downgrade in quality from first book to last book, in my opinion.

I've never read about a antagonist as one-dimensional as Dorothy. Every single one of her chapters felt like all she was saying was 'I need revenge on all the people who didn't understand how fantastic and beautiful I actually am'. After 4 books of literally the same plot line with the same boring villain, you can understand my frustration.

It was an odd choice to make this final book duel perspective. After all, we know what happened in Divergent when Veronica Roth chose to do duel perspectives... Shame this one didn't end in the same way as Allegiant. 

I am only giving this an extra half star because I liked the first book and I'm holding onto that memory.
