This book is extremely fun, and is perfect for a quick read, most especially during the spooky seasons, or any of your rainy/gloomy days. The plot of the story was very interesting and I can’t even remember how many times the comedy had me gasping for air. I didn’t even realize how good second chance romance tropes actually were, till I picked up this book. I felt like I was watching one of those Disney Channel Original Movies, but throw in a dash of spice. 

We love badass and empowered women. Vivi? God, her character is so sassy and adorable at the same time I sometimes couldn’t take her seriously. Gwyn is such a straightforward character who knows what she wants while Aunt Elaine is such a hippie, cool mom, all witchy things aside. These three women are so fucking powerful. One of the things I also loved about this book was that these two were written as side characters but they had such an amazing role to play in the progression of the plot. 

Vivi and Rhys have such this amazing chemistry I wanted to pull my hair off. How am I supposed to live, laugh, love when I don’t have what they have? The tension and the longing had me crying when they finally made out for the first time. 

Rhys is such a pleaser like c’mon. He has so much more to offer than having black hair and blue eyes, and being Welsh. He’s a good listener, for fucks sake. And he actually cares about Vivi’s opinions and her thoughts, and not to mention asks and gives? He basically treats Vivienne like the queen she is.

Easy read/listen. A good pallet cleanser but not overly impressed. Most of the book was just them having sex, not enough drama/story line build up for my liking.

I hate that I'm saying it...... but I would have 100% loved this more has a movie
What I mean is that this is the kind of story that I wouldn't mind spend 2 hours watching, but has a book... it was just boring? Boring sounds so mean, but for such a cool premise and honestly such a cool story line, I couldn't care less? Nothing felt like it had any weight to it. The romance did absolutely nothing for me, they just had no chemistry . <spoiler>And even the underling feminist story line, reclaiming the real history of the town, was just so flat.<spoiler>
Really sad I didn't like this one, honestly hope they make it into a movie, I can see that working really well.

I just wanted to read a Halloween book so this satisfied my wants, but did find it difficult for me to want to pick it up or focus on reading it.

This book has such a warm and cozy atmosphere and I loved the way with which the author had carved out this world and interweaved it with magic so deftly. I loved her resplendent and whimsical imagery of the festive season in a small town, it evoked a feeling of comfort. I specifically loved how witches led almost the same lives as their human counterparts but there was always some use of magic here and there incorporated in their lives, which was so fun to read.
 I really loved all of this, so much so that I was willing to forgive how one-note the characters were. But, unfortunately, I couldn't. 
Yes, I didn't love the characters, especially the protagonists. I was not feeling propelled to read further and find out what happens to them. I had to force myself to continue and swipe to the next page.
I wish it had a better romance, the leads lacked chemistry and were just in lust with each other. I say this because they were just thinking and talking about "ravishing" each other in the better half of the book. Writing two or three sex scenes doesn't make a good romance book. A good romance book should be able to show yearning, angst, and sexual tension between characters in the most tenderest of ways, but this book didn't manage to to do that. It felt so trite and vapid.

This reads like an early 2000s romcom. Definitely fall, cozy and practical magic vibes. I feel like this is one those books that would be eclipsed by it’s movie adaptation. Overall, quick and easy to read but I’m not obsessed.

If I had to describe the plot of this book, it would be something like this: “Sabrina the Teenage Witch” meets “Hocus Pocus”, dipped in Halloween. Except it is a bit sexy. And the talking cat in the story is much more focused on the important things in life (namely, TREATS). And there is a Welsh accent involved, and I don’t know if you have ever heard the Welsh accent, but it is not what I ever considered sexy. Now, however, I am confused and might be reconsidering a little bit.

The love story was very cute, but what I enjoyed above all was that the plot of the story was interesting enough that it didn’t feel like an afterthought or an excuse to push the love interests together. The action was as fun to read for me as the romance part.

So, what I am trying to say is that this was a very very cute and very very cheesy book, dressed as a fun fantasy. It ticked all the boxes for me as a basic PSL-fueled bitch, in terms of what I would like to see in a romance: autumn, Halloween vibes, candles, hexes, being petty with your ex, ghosts, and heart-breakingly good bad boys.

A very fun and fast read, but better to save it for October for the full effect.

witchy and cute as fuck. this was super fun to read and I just adored the halloween vibes. rhys and vivi were such a duo that i read this book so quickly bc i needed to know what was going to happen next. their dynamic and chemistry was electric and honestly im kinda sad that this was over so quickly. the perfect read for a spooky fall day!

I absolutely loved this spooky romance. It was cozy, hilarious and totally what I needed for my spooky season book club read!

I loved the banter, the fun had with her family, the hilarious cat and Dracula’s Bathtub 🛁

Vivi and Rhys are such fun personalities that go head to head, toe to toe and lips…

I needed an easy read, something sweet and fun and this was the perfect read for just that.

read this for a book club otherwise i would have never picked it up, took me 5 weeks to get through 50% of the book and then i was just skipping through the chapters trying to get through

i found that the book did have the atmosphere - autumn, halloween, witchy vibes. however, everything else fell flat.

the main leads were in a fling TEN years ago (when they were nineteen) but they're still hot for each other and we know that because the author repeatedly keeps on telling you that and that's about it. 

i can tell you nothing about rhys except for the fact that he has blue eyes (because that is also something the author keeps on telling you). vivi also did not feel like a fleshed out character - i wish the author had explored her relationship with her magic more.

also a note on the worldbuilding, everything felt convenient, as if the world and the magic was an afterthought.

something interesting that was discussed with the bookclub was that the book felt very disjointed like we are jumping from romance to fantasy to romance. we also discussed how it felt like the author had picked up pieces of the book from other books - idk about the other fantasy book people were talking about but the atmosphere and the cave bit definitely felt like it was taken from the raven boys.

the atmosphere is the only reason why i am giving it a 1. the other 0.5 is for the talking cat.
