Did you ever get one of those book chain mails? Well I followed through with three of them and this was the only book I got out of the three separate claims that I would get thousands of books mailed to my house. I only tell you this because this was not a book I would have picked out. It has set on a shelf for 7 years and I grabbed it to take on vacation with me in case I finished Cloud Atlas (which I did). It is about “immortals” who seem a lot like vampires. Kind of like vampires without the sucking. Their blood will heal people. One of the immortals gets married to a mortal. Well I think a lot of the immortals married mortals – because for some unknown reason only black men are immortals. But anyway this particular immortal decides that he wants his wife and child to be an immortal too. He immediately gets whisked away by the immortal police and his wife is left with one dead child (he was not successful in his attempt), and one unborn immortal child (he didn’t know his wife was pregnant). She then starts a clinic where she injects sick African children with her blood and miraculously heals them. Another story is also developing. A man whose wife just recently died of cancer is determined that his son, who has recently been diagnosed with leukemia, will not die. He reads about this clinic in Africa and sets off to plead with the woman for some blood to save his son. He does this even though his son could die while he is out of the country. Very entertaining with just enough suspense thrown in.
