I have been anticipating the release of Breaking Season from the moment I met Camden and Katherine in The Lying Season and The Hating Season. There was an air of anger, dissension and sexual tension surrounding them, which made me curious to learn their story.

It is said that first impressions are the most lasting, and I was curious to see if the author could change my initial reaction to these two. Well, she did an excellent job. I found Katherine to be unstable, bitter, unlikeable and a social climber, while Camden was detached, cynical, intimidating and controlling. While reading the previous books I kept wondering why did these two got married as they were constantly angry with each other. Well, Breaking Season taught me there was more to these two than I initially thought. I had the honor of peeling away their layers and slowly learning that the facade they portrayed was a means to cover up the pain from their past. I witnessed their softer, caring and protective sides. Linde did such a marvellous job with them, that by the end of the story my initial impression of them took a 360-degree turn.

They both have been through a lot and they deserved happiness. I loved how it turned out for them both. I especially loved the twist the author created. A twist, which worked in Camden’s favour and it made me happy for him.

I enjoyed how their love for each other developed throughout the story. It was clear as day that they cared for each other, but their fears and pain from their past proved to be their biggest stumbling blocks.

The couples from the previous books in this series were present in this installment, and it was fun catching up with them.

The story addressed effects of anorexia. The struggle to maintain what one believes is the perfect body to the detriment of one’s health. It also touched on cancer in children. The story did not go in depth with these topics, but the author provided enough information for the reader to understand the effects of both diseases.

I had a splendid time with this story and was happy with how it ended. If you enjoy enemies to lovers’ romance, then The Breaking Season would be a great addition to your shelf.

It was great being back in the Upper East Side with the characters you kind of hate to love I guess, haha. Lark was a character I was interested in. Yes, she was in the same circle as the characters we've met in the Cruel trilogy. In many ways she seemed less "evil" though, so I was curious about her story.

Lark grew up in this circle and never had to wish for anything. She doesn't want to work for her family though and has gone on her own path. Lark doesn't want to be "bad Lark" anymore and has made herself happy working on a political campaign. She loves it and is good at it!

Sam seems to be the one who got away and Lark never expected to see him again. Even though we get Sam's POV quite a few times, I still don't really feel like I know him. From what I learned he seems to be the romantic type and really sweet. I did enjoy his chapters and the time together with Lark. 

Even though I really like Sam and Lark, in my opinion it didn't feel like we got enough of just them. A lot happens around them and work is a big topic which I completely understand. Sometimes the drama and will they won't they felt out of place with everything else happening. I loved both of these characters and just wanted a bit more of them exploring their feelings!

Besides Sam and Lark trying to find their way back to each other, we got a glimpse of some of the characters in the previous books. I loved some of the updates and they definitely made me curious. I love all the drama and planning that goes into the Upper East Side. It feels like it could be a TV show that I wouldn't get enough of. I also loved the sidestory we got with Court. Which of course really makes me excited for his story! All in all, this was a fast and fun read and I can't wait for the next story K.A. Linde will give us.

The Hating Season, is the second book in the Seasons series and it follows the lives of Court Kensington and Anna English.

I was first introduced to both characters in The Lying Season and I found them fascinating and I jumped at the opportunity to read their story. Based on what was revealed in the first book, I expected this installment to be an angsty read and it definitely delivered that and more.

Anna is a top-notch publicist hired by the mayoral candidate to effect damage control after her son, Court was caught up in a scandal involving his ex-girlfriend.  She is a no-nonsense person and takes crap from no one. She appeared to have the perfect life, but then it all came crashing down when she discovered her husband cheated on her.

Court always seem to find himself in some interesting situations. He appeared rich and entitled, and he didn’t care what anyone thought of him. To say he was not pleased, when he learnt that Anna was hired to clean up his image, would be an understatement.

I enjoyed getting to know both characters. I admired Anna’s strength. It couldn’t have been easy learning of her husband’s infidelity, but she handled it well. She held her ground and did not accept his sorry excuses.

There is more to Court than meets the eye, as Anna would learn while spending time in his company. If only she could stick to her rule of not getting involved with a client which proved difficult the more, she learned about Court.

Both Anna and Court were no strangers to having their hearts broken, but they dealt with their pain differently. Anna threw herself into her work, while Court partied, hence his need for a publicist. Watching these two push and pull was interesting. Strangely enough their actions did not perturb me, but I was quite intrigued to learn if Anna would cease finding reasons for why she should not get involve with Court.

Some readers may have an issue with Anna falling so quickly for Court despite loving her husband for the past five years.  I believe her love for her husband was not borne out of passion, but more from the fact that he presented a haven from the betrayals she had suffered in the past.  His betrayal made her realised she was in love with what she thought he represented rather than the man himself. Court provided her with what her husband never could.

I loved the pacing, which I thought was well balanced. I enjoyed spending time with the secondary characters. There was a particular couple who intrigued me, and whose story we will be getting next.

Conclusion/Recommendation

Overall, The Hating Season proved to be a sizzling enemies to lovers romance that kept me up late into the night.

I went into The Lying Season by K.A. Linde, expecting an entertaining and engaging read and I was not disappointed.

The Lying Season is a second chance romance centered around the mayoral campaign trail. It tells the story of Lark St. Vincent and Sam Rutherford. Prior to the events in The Lying Season, Lark and Sam dated for a year. During this time Sam was not aware that Lark was from the Upper East Side, which made her out his league socially and financially. They hit a rough patch and their relationship ended on a bad note. Five years later, while fulfilling her dream working on the Mayoral campaign trail, Lark will come face to face with her past. Will Sam and Lark be able to overcome the issues of their past and seize their HEA.

I loved the pacing and flow of the story, and I found the romance and the characters to be well developed. I had a great time getting to know the secondary characters introduced and was happy to discover they would be getting their own story.

Lark has matured since her breakup with Sam. She is no longer manipulative and selfish. Instead, she has grown into a confident, down to earth and determined woman. I loved how she stood up for herself against persons who sought to meddle in her life.

As for Sam, I didn’t take to him immediately. His indecisiveness made it difficult for me to like him. The fact that it took someone else’s actions to make him come to a decision in regards to renewing his relationship with Lark did not go down well with me, and even then he was not completely honest with her. Eventually, he proved himself worthy of being with Lark.

What I enjoyed most about the romance between Lark and Sam was the pace at which it developed. Five years apart may not have extinguished the spark that burned between these two, but, Lark would not let Sam off so easily. He would have to work hard to prove he cared.

As, one would expect with a story centered on the political arena The Lying Season had its share of drama and angst. However, most of the angst and the drama had to do with Lark’s friends.

Conclusion/Recommendation
The Lying Season is a great start to what appears to be an exciting series. I enjoyed this book and would recommend it to readers who enjoy second chance romance.

A bad boy, playboy with an influential mother is given a babysitter to clean up his image, but things go from bad to worse when she starts falling for him.

A sexy contemporary romance about a woman who agrees to an arranged marriage only to unexpectedly fall in love with with her husband.
