The Reluctant Godfather A Retelling of Cinderella
Reviews

Oh my crumpets...this story was fantastic. <3 Just from reading all my buddies' reviews on Goodreads, I knew I was going to enjoy this. Sarcasm? Cake? Grumpy godfathers? COUNT ME IN. Fortunately, it was just as good--if not better--than I thought it would be. The characters were absolutely phenomenal, the dialogue hilarious, and the writing top-notch. I laughed out loud...more than my family would have liked. *cough* And I melted into a puddle of happiness during the ending scenes. <3333 I loved how Allison retold the story of Cinderella in a way I've NEVER heard it told. (view spoiler)[It was so cool that Ella married Burndee instead of the prince. THEY ARE PERFECT TOGETHER, OKAY?! (hide spoiler)] Yet I enjoyed the fact that it still rang true to the original story, feeling new and familiar at the same time. Loved this story so much! I honestly just want a collection of Burndee short stories now. *stares pointedly at Alli* XD 5 stars!

'Neat' was the highest superlative possible from Burndee and it was not a word that he often used...unless he was describing something he had done. 'Neat'--without even 'very' or 'really' attached to it--was extremely high praise from Burndee. Unfortunately, this one didn't do it for me. This Cinderella retelling wasn't bad, but it just wasn't what I was expecting...and the ending just...happened. The first few pages in, I loved it. I loved the witty remarks and banter between Burndee and his godchildren. I loveee me a grumpy, sardonic male character. But as the story moved along, a lot of the story just wasn't as original as the start of the book had been. And the end--sorry--just seemed like a quick and easy way to wrap up the entire thing. I liked the characters, especially Burndee, I just had hoped to see more of the banter distributed more throughout. This review can also be viewed on my blog: She's Going Book Crazy

This book is basically sugar, spice, and everything nice.
