And his story did not disappoint. He is now up there as one of my favourite brothers. I loved him. I loved how he was brought back into the Brotherhood and how he proved that he had always been worthy - just no one knew really what had happened to him and the misunderstandings became clear. The heroine Sarah, yes she was perfect for Murdher but at time, I struggled to warm up to her - not even sure why - just one of those things. Loved the side story with JM and how it moved his story forward. Overall a great 4 stars.

You know how some books, no matter how hard you try and how much you struggle, just aren't for you? That was The Savior for me. Truth be told, I only picked it because it was a GCA nominee in the romance, I really liked the cover and I was eager to read a new vampire fantasy. I had my Twilight years, full of fanged novels amongst the hysteria trend, but after it subsided, so did my interest in the genre. Now, I know this book is supposed to be the seventeenth in a series, BUT I couldn't have been supposed to read them all, could I? Well, not exactly but... The first hundred of pages of so were FULL of references to characters and relationships I had no way of knowing about and the book made it hard for me to understand who was who and whatever was going on so I've just felt lost for at least 25% of the book. This being said, what is with the names? Murdher? Xhex? Throe? I understand the idea that they should be strong names for vampire warriors but to me, they just seemed deeply ridiculous. The main couple was on point though. Murdher was entirely likeable and I felt a lot of sympathy for his condition, having been evicted from the brotherhood on the basis of his madness, gained after he has sacrificed himself for another member of theirs, which never made them any more understanding towards his suffering. This was probably what I disliked the most- when they thought him a danger, all brothers acted like huge jerks, rejecting his help and always treating him terribly, despite of their mutual past. And this whole idea of a group of strong, harsh men in a secret congregation, obeying their own rules just felt very shady to me and I didn't warm to the idea- at all. Sarah, the scientist who accidentally get involved in a series of unfortunate events which bring her in the midst of the brotherhood with a little vampire in her care, was definitely my favourite character. Having lost her fiance and finding out he was an essential part of said unethical experiments was heartbreaking, but she still evolved as the most balanced individual in the book and her relationship with Murdher was adorable. Her acceptance of his nature, her determinacy of fighting against having her memory erased and rather live with the pain of knowing what she had- and lost- all were very poignant elements who made me love her so much. The romance was also so very tender and fragile, obviously the strongest part of the book. Unfortunately, there was SO little of it in a book nominated for a romance prize. Simply puzzling... Instead, there was a lot of the macho business in the brotherhood fighting against one of the most flimsy, unnatural, one dimensional, laughable villains I have read of in a long while. Can't believe we wasted so much narrative space for the likes of him Overall, I wanted more than once to give up on the book and I definitely skimmed on some parts- I just couldn't take it sometimes. I liked the romance, and this kept me going but the pointless side plots and the supposed main story were entirely boring, annoying and unnecessary, which took away the fascination with our main couple and, ultimately, made the book a very tedious experience.

LOVED being back with the BDB boys. And I especially loved Murhder, Sarah, JM & Xhex. I'm ready for the next book now!
