There are many different kinds of bravery, Fionn. Often the journeys we take inside ourselves are more difficult than the stormiest seas.

What a book ! I absolutely adored The Storm Keeper's Island. It was a beautiful story about magic, family, bravery, grief and happiness. I think my favourite character was Fionn's grandfather and I loved the relationship between him and Fionn. It took me a while to warm up to Fionn and perhaps it's because I'm an adult now and not an 11-year old, though I could still appreciate his sense of wonder, thirst to prove himself, his loneliness and everything in between. Arranmore truly came to life through Doyle's writing. Her vivid descriptions, the island's rich history and magic came to life through this book's pages. There were times that I did cry as I read this book especially because some parts hit close to home for me, but I also enjoyed the warmth and sense of humour in it. 

I'm so thrilled to know there will be a sequel coming out because I would like to return for more adventures. Reading this book reminded me of reading The Famous Five series by Enid Blyton. There's something magical about getting lost in story of adventure that is both familiar and new all at the same time.

I thought this was a solid middle grade series. I did not love the pacing of this read but I grew to love the characters over the course of the book. I liked the magic elements of this book and also how this book dealt with many different types of family drama. It was slower book but one that still captured my attention, I did enjoy the main character and really am excited to see how he grows in future books in this series.

It took me a while to get into this but as soon as I did I enjoyed it. I think it's on the younger side of middle grade than I usually read but it still manages to deal with some quite serious and deep issues. I enjoyed all of the characters and it especially made me smile as the main antagonist shares my surname 'Beasley'.
