Unfortunately this is a three stars for me. I really loved the idea of the story and the characters, and the language was beautiful. However I feel like the pacing really let it down. I think it should have been longer just so the story could be more developed and the reader can be more emotionally involved. Although I thought the characters were great, they weren't developed at all and at some points it felt like he was just throwing them in for the sake of it. I would recommend this however to people who prefer short stories to novels and enjoyed Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson.

I love the story behind its creation and the plot itself, but the story was just a little disappointing. It was all tell, and no show, and the ending was so abrupt and random that I had trouble placing it. As such a short read it was amusing enough, but I just wish Polidori would’ve fleshed out the characters, settings, and relationships more. Aubrey switches countries faster than I can walk to the grocery store down streets, which is a shame as it is such a fantastic opportunity to set the scene and build the ambience.
