The Wild Robot
Reviews

this book was honestly so beautifully written. the artwork accompanying most chapters were gorgeous and i know i would have eaten this up as a kid. for a middle grade it was pretty deep but as an adult i loved it, so much thought was put into describing the natural world i ate it up. looking forward to checking the movie out:)

A real roller coaster of emotions!

Charming overall. A bit more violent than I expected, especially since it felt like a book for younger kids. My 9yo loved and even my 13yo (who sometimes found it slow) is insisting that we read the second book together over the summer. We’re all very excited for the movie in September.

The Wild Robot is not what I expected. It's more than what I expected. It's also at right angles to what I expected. I recommend pairing it with Kyo Maclear's memoir, Birds Art Life: A Year of Observation http://www.pussreboots.pair.com/blog/...

*3.5 Well, that was just delightful. I had absolutely no idea what to expect from this story. All I knew was that it included a robot and that's really all I needed to know. However, this story is so much more that that; it's long and fantastical. It's simple while not being boring. It merely follows a robot through her year stranded on an island. And it's ADORABLE. The way she adapts to her surroundings and learns to communicate with living things was endearing! This book touched on themes of motherhood and the 'circle of life' (the food chain, death, predators and prey) along with other, not so complicated themes, like friendship and helping someone when they need it, regardless of what they've done. It was sweet and I felt like I understood Roz the robot. I love the question of whether robots can (or should) feel things or not and this story just appealed to that question in me. Robots are interesting and fascinating! With all that being said, this story just didn't blow me away as I'd hoped. Granted, it is a middle grade novel but even then, I don't think that matters? Also, this book felt a little younger than middle grade, even with some of the bigger themes. Maybe just young middle grade? I'm not sure. While I empathized with Roz and all these creatures she began to befriend, and as much as I liked the ending, I just found the beginning to feel too long. It took longer than expected for me to really get interested in her story. I don't know if I'll pick up the sequel but, regardless, this was a cute read!

Book #63 Read in 2016 The Wild Robot by Peter Brown Roz is a robot and is washed up on an island after the ship carrying her sinks. The island animals believe Roz to be a monster and are scared of her. Eventually, Roz convinces them, mostly through her fostering of Brightbill, an orphaned gosling, that she is not a monster and wishes to be friends with them. The island crew band together when things get dangerous. This is a cute, quick read that middle school students will love. I borrowed this book from the public library.

I really enjoyed this book. While it did have some mature themes, I still felt it was appropriate for younger elementary aged kids. I enjoyed the story and the writing as it kept me captivated and wanting to know what happened next. The ending was unexpected, but I'm looking forward to the next book in the series. My son (almost 6 years old) also really enjoyed this book!

3 stars | cute middle grade book :)

I loved the art inside of this book. At the end there is a special view of the process of the character and scenes and it is quite interesting to see the ideas form. This was a sweet story of how family doesn’t have to be by blood. It is made by binds of being there for each other no matter what. It is a cozy adventure of a robot and her bird son navigating the wilderness and the creatures that inhabit it.

So this book took a little while to grow on me. The first few chapters I was very skeptical but I'm glad I persevered- a lovely story of acceptance, friendship, calm, and dealing with the hand you're dealt.

I love this story. it's like meditation ❤️

I never would have thought a story about a robot and wild animals on an island would make me emotional. It’s like nothing I’ve ever read and I loved it! Can’t wait to read the sequel. (If you have the option, I highly recommend the audiobook. It’s very well done.)
