I have similar feelings about this book as it's predecessor. There's nothing wrong with it per se, and there's some funny/unique stuff here, but it ultimately feels derivative and not quite as good as other works in the mad-cap fantasy genre like Tom Robbins. If you're isolated at a mountain cabin and this is one of the few options on the shelf, it's an alright choice, but if you have more selection, aid go with something else.

When I read the first novel in this series I found myself crying with laughter as I turned each page. With this novel, however, my heart raced - I was excited, I was surprised and I was filled with horror.
This second book surpassed the first in ways I could have never expected (which was incredible as I already had such a profound love for John Dies At The End) Following David, Amy, John and mysterious Molly through this horrific post apocalyptic journey was an absolute treat and I absolutely can’t wait to relive it all over again! 
Everything I could have ever wanted in a horror novel was there and it was coated with a perfect layer of comedy that had me torn between feeling terrible and laughing my guts out. A thoroughly entertaining journey that I would recommend to horror fans everywhere!

It was a good sequel to the amazing JDatE but it's not the same read at all.

Yes there are still dick jokes, off the wall bizarre moments and randomly juxtaposed cod philosophy. But its more formulaic and dare I say it more filmable.

Saying that I liked the romp through the story (a story that is not as alien to readers as the first book) and didn't even tire of the oft-used "10 hours ago" tactic (that's not a spoiler)

Some reviewers didn't like how the chapters were named "10 minutes to XXXXXX" but it added a (albeit fake) sense of impending danger.

As sequels go it's no Aliens, but it's no Speed 2 either

maybe don't read this if you have arachnophobia (the title does not lie), but wow, what a gloriously strange and vaguely mind-fucky book this was. can't wait to see what sort of wild ride the third book offers
