Cat thought the Hydra epidemic was over, but when new cases pop up, Cat must team up with an enemy to fix the vaccine before the virus spirals out of control in this thrilling sequel to This Mortal Coil, which New York Times bestselling author Amie Kaufman says “redefines ‘unputdownable.’” The nightmare of the outbreak is finally over, but Cat’s fight has only just begun. Exhausted, wounded, and reeling from revelations that have shaken her to her core, Cat is at a breaking point. Camped in the woods with Cole and Leoben, she’s working day and night, desperate to find a way to stop Lachlan’s plan to reprogram humanity. But she’s failing—Cat can’t even control her newly regrown panel, and try as she might to ignore them, she keeps seeing glitching visions from her past everywhere she turns. When news arrives that the Hydra virus might not be as dead as they’d thought, the group is pushed into an uneasy alliance with Cartaxus to hunt down Lachlan and fix the vaccine. Their search takes them to Entropia, a city of genehackers hidden deep in the desert that could also hold the answers about Cat’s past that she’s been searching for. But when confronted with lies and betrayals, Cat is forced to question everything she knows and everyone she trusts. And while Lachlan is always two steps ahead, the biggest threat to Cat may be the secrets buried in her own mind.

Listened to this book. Honestly, I loved this book. Cat isn't one of my favorite characters, but she's cool. Cole... I don't know how i feel about Cole. I absolutly loved Lee, and Anna a bit too. But the plot, the storyline, the worldbuilding. I just loved all that. So complex, but still so well written that it just clicks. The book is absolutly worth reading it!

Ahh I think this is my favorite one of the trilogy, just cuz there's so much new information and so much going on. Some parts are better than others.

Reading this as a med stud and as someone who used to be into coding, it changes everything

Really enjoying this series so far. This one is a bit more melodramatic, but the craft is also improved and I really liked that the romance did not dominate the story, as I feared it might based on the ending of the first book. There’s more reveals, just as interesting as the first book, which threw out some doozies! I also am just so into the gene hacking and virus aspects of the book. Very biopunk, but turned up to 11 on the technological scale. Yet still plausible, thematic, and rooted in deep seeded and compelling questions. I wish the covers were a bit different because that was my initial balking point on these books. Well reviewed and liked, but it’s not a book you’d want to pick up based on the cover and the market is fairly saturated. This series deserves to be far more popular than it is.

I LOVED the first book. The goal kept changing, but there was a clear trajectory in the story. I think this book lost some of the precision that made the first one so great. We think we know who the enemy is, we think we know who’s working with who, we think we know what needs to be done, but everything is turned on its head. And not in the good plot-twist sort of way, but in the pad-the-story kind of way. It’s one step forward, two steps back the entire novel. That said, I really did enjoy the big twist (no spoiler!), and I would still say this is a good book. I will devour the final one, I’m sure.

I have to admit that I wasn't in the right mood when I read this. I felt that the pandemic weariness is taking a toll with regards to reading dystopian books, especially with the ones with a fictional outbreak. While I find the scientific elements in the novel quite well done (as with the first book) and the writing pretty easy to get into. There were also a few minor issues in the plot, but they're not major concerns because of a few nice surprise appearances. If not the pandemic, this could have been a pretty decent & well-paced Sci-Fi novel which I would recommend without reservation. However with the pandemic taken into account, I felt a bit unsatisfied reading this as what I need right now is something to lift my mood up.

this plot was way too driven by “love” when we literally know that cole does not giving a crap about cat (and why are we romanticizing loving someone that lies and uses you; this would’ve been 100% better if cat was like okay fuck you then i’ll do this for myself and the rest of the population that aren’t meanies) but the messiness and every character changing personalities every time they speak was very funny

Disclaimer: I bought this book! Yay me! Rating: 4/5 Publication Date: October 30, 3018 Genre: YA Sci-Fi Recommended Age: 15+ (science, hacking, disease, spontaneous combustion, cloning, and gore) Publisher: Simon Pulse Pages: 394 Amazon Link Synopsis: Cat thought the Hydra epidemic was over, but when new cases pop up, Cat must team up with an enemy to fix the vaccine before the virus spirals out of control in this thrilling sequel to This Mortal Coil, which New York Times bestselling author Amie Kaufman says “redefine’s ‘unputdownable.’” The nightmare of the outbreak is finally over, but Cat’s fight has only just begun. This book was amazingly well done and very smart! If you love books that are very technical, this is your book. The science in this book is pretty sound as well and this dystopian doesn’t seem so far out of reach. However, I did feel that it was much slower than the first one and a bit more confusing. I often got lost while reading it. I think this book would be best read with the first one. Verdict: A decent sequel! Can’t wait for the third book and the prequel!

3.5 ⭐️ Such a wild ride! This book followed the events of This Mortal Coil and it was an action packed sequel filled with mind blowing reveals, strong characters and and so much technology, genehacking and coding. I have no idea what could happen next, but I’m ready to continue on this crazy journey.

Holy crap that was intense. I loved the characters even more I think and some of the reveals were gutting. I cannot get over that ending either! I need the next book now. If you enjoyed This mortal coil then you will not be disappointed by this sequel.
