This Girl A Novel

Colleen Hoover’s New York Times bestselling Slammed series comes to its gripping conclusion. There are two sides to every love story. Now hear Will’s. Layken and Will’s love has managed to withstand the toughest of circumstances, and the young lovers, now married, are beginning to feel safe and secure in their union. As much as Layken relishes their new life together, she finds herself wanting to know everything there is to know about her husband, even though Will makes it clear he prefers to keep the painful memories of the past where they belong. Still, he can’t resist his wife’s pleas, and so he begins to untangle his side of the story, revealing for the first time his most intimate feelings and thoughts, retelling both the good and bad moments, and sharing a few shocking confessions of his own from the time when they first met. In This Girl, Will tells the story of their complicated relationship from his point of view. Their future rests on how well they deal with the past in this final installment of the beloved Slammed series.

This was essentially the first book again just from Will’s POV while they were in their honeymoon. Where I said it needed two povs this is what I get. I kind of wanted a Gavin and Eddie book instead but I stuck around with them being the side plot that I enjoyed more. But since this was essentially the first book my viewpoints on that one can be copy and pasted for this one.

Waste of time. Just read the last 17 pages for more about their story.

It felt like reading Slammed over again with slight differences in perspective. Boring and repetitive

I finished the last book in the Slammed series today. I started back during spring break and was expecting it to be fantastic, but it was nothing special. Actually, a little boring. The book was basically the first book, but from Will’s perspective. Instead of being the “third” book, I felt like it should have been a novella that clearly stated what it was. From the back, I felt like it was going to be a continuation of their story which the epilogue was, but that was all of the last four pages. Don’t get me wrong, I love Will and Lake, I just wish we could have seen more of them together, raising their brothers and hanging out with their friends. I wanted to see what happened in their lives. This book skipped three years from the end of Point of Retreat to the epilogue… I liked the ending definitely, I just wanted to actually read about those three years instead of rereading the first book. With that being said, well, there isn’t much to say about the middle of this story. I will say that it is definitely not Colleen Hoover’s best work. Her stories seem to get better after this. The lines during the “honeymoon” pages were so cliche and unoriginal I wanted to gag at parts. I do like how she kept Will and Lake’s romance fairly clean. They were never a very raunchy couple and Hoover stayed true to that. I don’t want to give away any spoiler, but the epilogue is great! I was happy with the way it ended.

** spoiler alert ** This is going to be a review of the entire Slammed series, not just This Girl. So basically, here’s the gist: Lake and Will met. They immediately had this attraction for each other. After only knowing each other for a mere three days and going out on one date, they felt like they are already falling in love. Then, here comes the twist—Will apparently is Lake’s teacher. Of course, because of ethics and other blah blah blah, they can’t be with each other. First concern about this series: Colleen should have stopped with the first book. It already went well and I ended up loving it a lot, despite the obvious stupidity of the plot. And even though I also loved Point of Retreat (the second book) which was also fun and great, I still am firm with what I feel that the series should have ended with Slammed. I already liked Slammed. I ended up liking Point of Retreat as well. But This Girl was an entirely different story to the point where I couldn’t find it in me to finish the goddamn book. Yes, I didn’t even finish it because it was just a fucking pain in the ass. For those who are not aware, This Girl is basically the same story as Slammed only in the point of Will and alternating chapters where they go back to the “present time”, in their honeymoon. This Girl just made me realize how fucking idiotic the whole plot is. Sometimes it’s better to know the perspective of the other person but in this case, it’s just completely pointless and it made me want to fucking strangle both Will and Lake and even Colleen (who I adore, btw, just not for this stupidity). The thing is, Will and Lake were so in love and so attracted to each but they can’t be together because Will is her fucking teacher. This is fucking stupid because 1) Will isn’t actually a teacher—he’s a fucking student teacher and 2) HE’S NOT TECHNICALLY A TEACHER! I know it goes against whatever ethic codes that they have or whatever but for crying out loud he’s not even a certified teacher just yet. I know, I know. He can’t quit being a teacher just yet because it’s what pays for the bills and he needs to take care of Caulder (his little brother whom he’s the sole guardian of), but Jesus Christ, just quit being a student teacher! Will could have still gone through College and could have just gotten a job on the side to support him and Caulder for the mean time while Lake finishes her senior year! Like why the hell are y’all making this fucking difficult and complicated???? If you’re so in love with each other, just do something about it and wait for one goddamn school year!!!! It’s not that complicated!!! Again, he’s a fucking STUDENT TEACHER, not an actual teacher. And Lake wasn’t even a minor, she was already 18! And their age gap is 3 fucking years!!! What is so fucking unethical about that????? I would understand if it was like Will was 35 and Lake was 17 so they have this huge gap to worry about plus Will’s an ACTUAL TEACHER and Lake’s a minor so really, not just unethical, not just frowned upon, it’s actually illegal. Colleen could have the “struggle” worse but this, this so-called struggle was just fucking stupid.

I liked this book but at the same time I don't understand the need of writing a book showing us a small recap of the two previous books. I know that this was from Will's point of view, but still, only a few new aspects were revealed. I found the ending to be the best part, but I'm a hopeless romantic. 3,5 ⭐ (rounded to 4 because I really loved the ending)

Definitely an improvement from Point of Retreat, but not by much. Not as good as Slammed, and again, very unnecessary. *sigh*

I loved this, having the pov of Will from everything that happened in Slammed was so insightful. Knowing his thoughts and feelings made me understand his actions so much more. I didn’t think I could like Lake and Will’s relationship more but this book made me fall in love with them as a couple even more.

*Rolls dramatically her eyes* ¿Qué es esto? Bueno, esto es Slammed all over again.

2.5. Eu amo a série Slammed, AMO!

⭐⭐⭐⭐.5/5 stars, I loved it but I loved it a little less than the other 2 bc this was pretty much pieces from the first book + little pieces from the honeymoon in between so it was like history repeated so yeah... But I still loved it so much!!!!

“Think what you want, but there isn’t a single woman in this whole damn universe that I could ever love like I love you.” This was a beautiful close to one of my favourite romance series of all time. PLOT I love, love, love how reading this feels almost like watching a movie that flips between past and present. There's witty comments strewn throughout the book that make it so fun. My favourite moments throughout the book were all the little snippets of Julia that we got to see. I loved hearing about the conversations she had with Will before him and Layken got together. There's a handful of other Julia moments I loved that I'll keep to myself in order to keep this review spoiler free, but rest assured, you'll love them. My only complaint is that the conflict in the book fell short for me. Of course, there was conflict in the stories Will was telling Layken, but it was conflict that we as the readers had already experiences. I just wish there had been a little bit more conflict in the present chapters. CHARACTERS This book is told from Will's perspective, which only makes me love him more. He tries so hard to always do the best he can with the hand he's been dealt. For that, I admire him. I also loved getting to see Will's friendship with Gavin. There are lots of moments where the two of them had me laughing, or where my jaw was hanging open in shock. Am I sad to say goodbye to these characters? Of course. Am I more than happy that they got the happily ever after they deserved. Abso-freaking-lutely.

This book was butterflying beautiful. The perfect ending for this really amazing series. The epilogue was so amazing and The Final Piece brought me to tears. I don't know why I waited so long to read this book, or why I even thought I wouldn't enjoy it. Slammed, Point of Retreat and This Girl are so much more than just Contemporary Romance. They're books that deal and face with lost, with having to grow up quickly, parenthood and leave you with such amazing and impactful message. Also, hearing Will's side of part of the story was such a treat. I love his voice, and his somewhat poetic way to say things. It's a Trilogy I most definitely will read again some time in the future.

I know I am the black sheep here, but I have to say I am very disappointed especially considering the first two books in the series were so strong.... This book was nothing more than a regurgitation of the first book. It felt like an end-of-season flashback episode. Nothing new....nothing explosive. Just a repeat. In my opinion, the entire thing was pointless. Lake managed to turn from a character I loved, to an annoying child. I would rather have kept my previous memories of her. Apparently by adding on a baby announcement to the end it justifies changing the title....

Fun enough, but didn't love it. This book is the story of Slammed from Will's point of view and felt a little unnecessary. There weren't enough new things for my taste. I thought the book was published like an afterthought a few years after the original books. It might have been fun if that was the case, not totally remembering the first story anymore, but this book was published 1 year after slammed? Don't really get the point. I still really like the main characters though, even if they are a bit cringy and it wasn't a bad book.

I just couldn't love this one like I did the others. I felt like I was just re-reading Slammmed and Point of Retreat.. I ended up only actually reading the current-day parts, and only skimming the rest of it for the bits that weren't in the other books. this is the first colleen hoover book that didn't tug my heart strings and make me cry. I just really wasn't that into it
