Great book for exploring Thrawn origins but lack of political and social context are disappointing.

3 - 3.5 stars. This is a thorough deep-dive into the Chiss world - geographically, culturally, and politically, setting me up for the rest of this prequel trilogy but written as if I was reading a history textbook chapter. That can either be good or bad, depending on your tastes, but to me that wasn't good. I don't want to feel like I'm studying for an upcoming exam, even though I enjoyed History class during my school years! As most of you know Thrawn is touted as the alien version of Sherlock Holmes but there are some scenes which make me wonder if he has The Force. Overall it's ok, not great but not bad.
