This was a fun first look at the Soul Society. I loved seeing these characters enter the Soul Society and begin to understand how this world/realm works. I liked seeing the outskirts of the Soul Society and beginning to understand what life might look like for those living there. I loved seeing Yūichi reunite with Chad, it felt unexpected and early, but I liked how that smaller filler-esque storyline came back and added to the bigger main storyline in a satisfying way. I liked the introduction of some major players in this volume and it was interesting seeing the early scenes of these characters knowing where they’ll eventually end up. It was interesting being introduced to key concepts and ideas in this volume, and I’m looking forward to seeing the payoff in the manga.
