I found his previous works "A Whole New Mind" and "Drive" very interesting, but this one has really pushed the bar of pseudo-science too far. 

Daniel Pink doesn't know what he is really talking about. What he defines a doctor and a professor do as selling, is not that at all, what he's doing is Communicating. Communication is the art behind the professions that need the worker to relate with others, share and collaborate. 

Selling means convince someone to buy something. And this is not the same thing as convincing someone to share the same idea with me. Aristotle and Plato were no sales men, and me as a teacher I'm no sales man. This is really dumbful.

Have heard the thought before that everyone is a salesperson - and it is true. 

Dan Pink highlights the reasons why we are all salespeople, covers the history of why sales has a bad reputational history (I likened it to basically the tech world analogy of push versus pull) and then outlines how today's sales person engages customers who then want to do business with the salesman because she or he is offering a clear benefit to that customer. The person selling must do so in a way that engages the customer, shows the clear benefit and then empowers the customer to buy when they are ready.

The power of the customer is truly the story - as Dan shows that through social media the potential payoffs of a quick sell and dump won't work as it has in the past.

One interesting tidbit I picked up was that the Fuller brush man was an Atlantic Canadian!

So while I am not going to clearly gain at all by your purchase of this book - I would hope (and I'm sure Dan wouldn't mind it either) that you will consider it... well worth it! Looking for extra reasons as to why you should buy now....

The book is enjoyable, easy to read, and offers many insights into the world of selling.

Pick it up at your earliest convenience because with these many great features it's sure to not last long!!!!!

(Hope you all didn't mind the salesman'y clichés thrown in for effect ;) - seriously I loved it!)

Pink does a great job of making this material interesting and practical. Loved it. There is a lot more depth here than your standard business book.

I struggled with this. Lucky its a slim book.

I have a weird relationship to Pinks books, I am usually very interested in the subject matter, but because we have similar views, I've already read most of the books and articles he references.

But I'm not even that well read!! So, I figure he's going for the airport biz book crowd. It's easy to read and it summarises lots of related studies and thinking .

There's just doesn't seem to be many original ideas.
I think if you've read anything about persuasion - and I would suggest influence by cialdini (psychology) as the one stop shop, or words that work by frank luntz (messaging, communication) you don't need to read this.

One bit of value I got was the rec to read Impro - a book about the philosophy behind improvisation which sounds interesting.
