I watched this movie on tape at my grandparent's house and remember it being lots of fun. A typical 90s animal adventure film set in China with a boy attempting to rescue a panda cub from poachers. Why were there so many of these "boy meets animal" movies back then? I don't know, but I have a soft spot for them. 

Unfortunately, the book fell into the trap that most movie novelizations do - being totally unnecessary. If all the book is going to do is quote the script verbatim and not give any further characterization or introduce backstory, what's the point? Just watch the movie!
