The Equals are aristocrats with money and power. The Ordinary People must serve the Equals for 10 years. The Jardines belong to this elite class while the Hadleys do not. Both families have three children. Their destinies intertwine when the Hadleys must complete their obligatory servitude. Life, from that moment on, will never be the same for anyone.
