Oakwyse Utters an Ogham Charm A Meditation Upon the Trees of the Ogham
This little book contains the Ogham Charm of OakWyse (Walter William Melnyk) together with visual representayions of the Ogham letters, and excerpts from Melnyk's poetry and novel to illustrate the meaning of each letter. It is not an Ogham "how-to" or text book, but a way to carry the Charm with you.The journey of an Ogham seer begins not with reading a book, but with a conversion experience in contact with a tree. Seeing is not something one learns, it is a gift. It has more to do with relationship than scholarship, with intuition than with intellect. There is no evidence whatsoever that the ancient Druids ever used Ogham for divination. The only Ogham inscriptions still extant are names carved upon boundary stones and memorial markers. And Ogham appears to have been used with Latin and Irish, whereas the Druids are believed to have used Greek. The Tree Ogham was a memory device much like “A is for Apple.” And besides the Tree Ogham there were Bird Oghams, lake Oghams, Hero Oghams, and many others. Having said that, there is also no reason whatsoever why we cannot use the symbology of the Tree Ogham as a present day tool for Seeing. And what is seeing? It is most certainly not “telling the future.” Ogham cannot tell you what will happen, nor what you should do. But by entering into the rich symbolism of tree lore, you may find a new window into the depths of your understanding, see connections you have not seen before, intuit paths about which you had not known. The Ogham Seer is a Guide in this, a Guide along the way. There are volumes of Ogham study to satisfy the intellect. This small book leaves the realm of scholarship to dwell in the world of relationshipOakWyseAugust 10, 2012
