Christianity and Western Civilization Christopher Dawson's Insight-- Can a Culture Survive the Loss of Its Religious Roots? : Papers Presented at a Conference Sponsored by the Wethersfield Institute, New York City, October 15, 1993

The Wethersfield Institute presents this series on the insights of the great Christopher Dawson on the vital question, "Can a culture survive the loss of its religious roots?" Dawson's life was devoted to scholarly work as a sociologist and historian, but his principal achievement and contemporary impact are in his profound insights into the relationship of religion and culture. Dawson insisted that religion is the key to history. In contrast to the academic tendency to reduce the importance of religion, Dawson emphasizes the need to understand a society's religion if one wants to understand the original formation and the successive transformation of any human culture. In this volume, five noted professors provide profound reflections on this theme.
