When Stars Collide A Chicago Stars Novel
Reviews

I would like this better if I read it. I listen to it on audio and I enjoyed it, but I think I prefer these kind of books and print. I enjoyed the book, I want to look up more in the series. I remember I looked at them a long long time ago. Maybe I will reread some? I remember they were dated when I read them. As far as this book I enjoyed it. I like the banter between the two. I thought the use of an opera star was an interesting and I'm used angle. It also somehow unearth a love of Opera in me. I had to look up some songs, including the Battle Cry of the Valkyries. I ended up loving enough to show my family. Thank you to the author for that.

This book was messy and weird and so overly dramatic and I enjoyed every second of it!

SEP fan forever … A great read, a slight departure from the usual reads but nonetheless still great! Loved the character development and how the opposites attract but also find the commonality. Romance with a tinge of mystery. Loved revisiting the Chicago Stars. There is spice but not overly spicy as the TikTokers say.

I really enjoyed this book! I love love love Olivia and Thad’s interactions, and the friendship they built. Their banter was so fun to read, along with Clint. If you like romances that aren’t super straight to the point, this book is that. *** mild spoiler below *** My biggest issue was the reveals! I don’t understand why you would make the culprits someone you literally meet right before they are revealed (like literally two pages). And the one culprit you know for a while, you know very very little about so it is almost impossible to guess. That being said, I don’t mind that too much because I didn’t come to this book looking for a mystery, and it was a nice surprise to have that as an aspect.

Thad Owens, backup quarterback for the Chicago Stars, and Olivia Shore, international opera superstar, have been hired by Marchand Timepieces to tour the country to promote their newest line of men's and women's watches. Although they initially rub each other the wrong way, Thad and Olivia soon find that they have much more in common than they thought, but neither believes they have what it takes to survive a long term relationship. In addition, strange things have been happening to Olivia, stemming from the recent suicide of her former fiance, which have caused her to lose her confidence in her ability as a singer. As these events begin to escalate, they also become dangerous. When Stars Collide is another entry in the long-running Chicago Stars series, and characters from previous books do appear in very minor roles in this story. However, their plot lines as well as those of other minor characters remain largely undeveloped. Initially, Thad and Olivia are fairly unlikable characters, but as the plot evolves, more of the reasons behind their actions become clear. These unlikable traits at the beginning of the story made it difficult for me to connect with the characters even as the two protagonists began to inch their way toward a real relationship. In addition, some of the events in the story are humorous while others seem a little forced. Overall, When Stars Collide is a good entry in the Chicago Stars series, but not my favorite. 3 1/2 stars

Highlights

At the end of the day, when her makeup and costumes came off, Liv loved being Mrs. Thad Owens. Almost as much as he loved being Mr. Olivia Shore.
These two divas really love each other

"How could I not love you?" He searched her face as if he couldn't get enough of it. "You're everything. Smart and beautiful and funny and gifted. Sexy. God, are you sexy. When I couldn't find you in the water, I wanted to die myself."
She'd worked so hard not to cry, and now he was the one with tears in his eyes.
"I love you, Liv. I love you in more ways than I can count."
♡

"That's opera for you." His face was soft, inquisitive, achingly tender. "The night I pulled you out of the river - the night I thought you'd drowned. It was the worst moment of my life. It took you almost drowning for me to realize how important you are to me. How much more important you are than winning a ball game or being a starter. How much I love you."
Should've realized it earlier but never mind.. this was so cute

She forgot names, lost track of conversations, and he was doing even worse. At one point, he addressed a clearly pregnant woman as "sir."
Lmao

"Lovers? So what? We're both adults, and as far as I know, neither of us is married. You're not, are you? Because I don't mess around with married women."
I'm so confused about his phone call earlier.

She laughed in his face. A big, theatrical "ha!" that came straight from her diaphragm. "You don't think I have the guts?" I've been booed at La Scala!"
"They booed you?"
"Sooner or later it happens to everyone who sings there. Callas, Fleming, Pavarotti." She reached for the door handle, stepped out onto the dirty pavement and turned to gaze down at him. "I gave them the finger and finished the performance."
That's the spririt!

He'd put his phone to his ear and spoke into it. "Hey, Piper. Looks like we're playing phone tag. I got your message, and I should be back in the city by then. Remember to let me know when you decide you're ready to cheat on your husband." He disconnected.
I'm sorry? I don't understand any of it. I read the whole book and still don't know what this was about. Was this about work or what? I had so low opinions of him when I read it first because he sounds like a total douchebag.
