This is a beautifully written story following a young girl named Minli. Her family lives in a very poor village with barely enough to eat. Every day she sees her mother get more and more beat down by their poverty. Minli decides to go on a journey to see if she can make life better for her family. She will find the Old Man on the Moon and ask him how to change their fortune. This is such a beautiful story! A magical tale filled with Chinese folklore. A must read if you like middle grade. I loved it!

WOW. I MEAN WOW. I did not expect to love this book. at all. I don't really read books that has dragon in it. Because I don't really like dragon. But since everyone seems talking about this book, I decided to give it a go and WOW. What a gem! First of all, as a Chinese myself, there are few things in this book that I am familiar with. How there is a mention of "A-gong" and "Amah". I called my grandpa and grandma the same thing! :) How goldfish brings luck. About rabbit, the moon and so on. And somehow reading about a girl with black hair and black eyes, I saw myself. It is really a heartwarming book and it made me miss my a-gong who is in heaven. LOVELY LOVELY BOOK! P.s Can we all appreciate how beautiful the title is?!!!!!! the most beautiful book title.
