This was quite literally a SNATCH of a read, and it had me zoned in the entire time. I was addicting to what the next page would bring, and what story would continue to unfold within the next line. The story line in this book was absolutely marvelous, and blended so damn well as well as the plot twist(s) that kept occurring that I NEVER saw coming. Especially the ending of this story, keeps me on my toes about what happens next - even though there is no next page or book. I highly recommend this book to everyone!

The right elements, interesting story, good dread feeling throughout, and nice plot twists. It might not be a literary masterpiece but it's a book entertaining enough to keep turning the next page. The interesting part is that this is inspired and partly based on some real events. It's just astounding to see how people would flame up to massive proportions the smallest of flickers as long as it had the word occult. Also, it's very shocking to see how kid psych interviews were held. I'm not trying to spoil the book so won't go into details, but just for those parts, the book is worth it. I think this for me was more of a 3.5 stars than actually 4. It was entertaining. It has great plot twists, some obvious, some not. The good bits are the psychological aspects and "inside view" of someone apparently "losing it" and all that internal dialogue. I love when books go all Hunger. Also really liked that it was narrated from the protagonists perspective instead of third person. As for the horror factor, there was certainly a good dread build up, making you feel on edge and jumpy, while not being a full fledge horror novel. It's a bit light on the "satanic rituals" side, but you already know that from the blurb. I recommend if you find that period interesting or remember it (that means you're an 80's kid). If you're into occult, rituals or cults, this is not the right book.
