I read somewhere that I needed to go blind into this book and I'm glad I did. It totally fucked with my head, but it blew me away.

I'm used to this author writing taboo stories that push the limits, and usually very sexual; hence, I was expecting the same, but I was so wrong.

This story deals with so much. It tore my heart apart. I admit it got to a point where I figured out what was going on before it unfolded, but even then, it came as a shock when it climaxed.

You need to go into this story blind. Do not read spoilers because it will ruin the entire experience for you. I really recommend this story just to create awareness of something that is still so taboo and people deem as "crazy", when it's something so very serious.

Check trigger warnings but go in BLIND. so glad I did. this was a wild ride and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Kady and Yeo’s will stick with me for a while to come.

Saw this recommended on TikTok and was told to go in fully blind and I’m so glad I did because when that plot twist hit I genuinely was surprised and kind of delighted, despite the dark subject matter. Definitely trigger warning for childhood abuse, it’s a quick read only about 200 pages only took me like 2 days when all was said and done. Worth the read for sure, I will say everything AFTER the plot twist fell a little flat for me I wished it came a bit later in the novel.

I will be marking this as a spoiler even tho I dnfed at 46%.

First of all, let's talk about the fact that out of the hundreds of reviews, I was not able to find a SINGLE review that mentioned all the racist language

As is my understanding, K Web is WHITE. Yet in 2016 or 2017 (whenever the fuck this was published), this WHITE woman decided that she was going to make her male main character BIPOC. Which that in itself isn't bad. It's the FACT that she did it in such a terrible way. Now I don't know if she consulted with Korean people but I myself as a BIPOC woman, would never let a white woman write such racist, stereotypical and offensive language. I, myself do not make racist jokes and have actually dropped friends for making such jokes. So the fact that this white woman decided that because one of her main character is Asian, she can write racist things as a "haha funny line" 

Yeo is half Korean on his mother's side. In the 46% that I read, in my opinion he seemed very proud of that and even talked about how nothing beat his mom's home cooked Korean meals. Yet since the moment he met Kady (the MC) and her friend, Bones, at the age of 10, he has let them get away with their racist attitudes. 

The first time Yeo meets Kady, he mentions how he should bring a snack for Bones next time to meet him and says he will bring tteok. Kady asks what it is and he says "like rice cakes" to which Kady responds with "she makes a pretend gagging noise 'Gross! Bones will most definitely not like that..."' which is somewhat understandable as they're 10 year olds. BUT, a few days later, Yeo meets Bones and bones actually says 
"she [kady] said you were cute, but I don't see it. Kind of fugly if you ask me. Why does your hair stick up? Your eyes look weird. Do you eat cats? Kady will kill you if you eat her cat. Just saying."

Kadys grandma then comes out and says that Bones is a troublemaker...miss maam do you mean racist??? THEN K Web proceeds to have Bones call Yeo a "kitty muncher" TWENTY SIX (26) TIMES throughout the entire book. I searched it up. 

I, as a Hispanic and Latina would NEVER let anyone disrespect me or my culture with racist and stereotypical language. I would never SAY anything like that to another BIPOC person. Now tell me why this white woman had the caucasity to not only write it BUT HAVE HER BIPOC CHARACTER NOT REACT OR DEFEND THEMSELVES IN ANY WAY.

And if anyone even thinks of commenting that Bones ends up being in love with Yeo (cause that's what I felt K Web was hinting at) and that that somehow excuses all his behavior, NO. Stop right there. 

Bones to Yeo again:
"You stink" his lip curls in disgust. 'Fucking kimchi"'. 

As I mentioned earlier, I did not finish this book and do not plan to so im not sure if there are any more instances like that, but in my opinion, that's enough. 

I am so incredibly disappointed and frustrated and saddened by the fact that so many people hype this book up but no one ever thought to mention this. 

Anyway, that's that on that. I don't know if I will ever read another k web book. I'm so disappointed in this white woman. It's not a secret that Asian men are rarely the main character in romance books (especially indie romance) and that western culture does not see Asian men as handsome so its just extra maddening that this could have been a GREAT example of how white authors can correctly white BIPOC characters. Instead, she fucked up big time.

This would have been a 1 star read if I didn’t actually finish it. What can I say? I just really didn’t like this. None of it was for me and the writing and characters felt childish, and shock value for the sake of it. Idk. Not my cup of tea at all

Este libro me voló la cabeza totalmente, no me esperaba ese giro de la situación para nada, MADRE MíA.

No le pongo más estrellas porque a pesar de que la trama es como poco sorprendente y oscura, no logré conectarme del todo con la historia. De igual forma, es de fácil lectura, me lo devoré en horas.
