“I asked you out.” I pulled out a chair for her to sit, but she stayed on her feet.

“And you’re just now realizing that was a mistake? My rejections weren’t enough?”

I grinned at the smirk on her face. God, she was fun to banter with. So much fun, I just might have to make it part of my regular routine. “The mistake was that I asked.”

Her eyes narrowed. “What do you mean?”

“I’m not asking anymore. If I want a date”—I swung my hand out to the food on the table— “I’ll take it from now on.”

She scoffed. “You might be the most stubborn and persistent man I’ve ever met in my life.”

“Aww.” I puffed up my chest. “Thank you.”

Larke rolled her eyes, but there was a ghost of a smile on her lips.

Ronan is the brand new lawyer at Calamity Montana. He’s basically set foot at his office when he catches a glimpse of Larke is instantly enchanted by her. After making a fool out of himself by asking Larke out on a date and having her turn him down, you’d think the guy would give up. On the contrary, it makes him even more eager to pursue her. Unfortunately, Larke keeps turning him down left and right. 

Right when he’s ready to give up, a teenager drops by his office demanding a lawyer to sue her teacher, who’s none other than Larke

. Realizing this is his shot at Larke, he accepts, while also trying to figure out just what is this teenager hiding and why is her need for perfection so demanding and crucial.

always enchanted and waiting with bated breath for the next book

 she writes. Ronan and Larke’s relationship and how they are with each other has to be one of my favorites of the series. They’re incredibly mature and open with each other, as well as oh-so-sweet like cotton candy. I just want to smush them into a jar and place it on my highest shelf so I can protect them for everything.

. They’re kind of at odds with this whole situation of Ronan representing the girl who’s suing Larke. And it doesn’t help that both have developed feelings for each other. And gosh, please 

don’t get me started on the relationship between Ronan and Wren, Larke’s daughter. It’s the cutest thing you’ll ever come across. His nickname for her, “firefly”, melted me right then and there

, and had me in tears, because isn’t that the cutest?!

It speaks volumes of Ronan’s character when he goes above and beyond for the teenage girl he’s representing. He knows something else is going on her life and he basically moves heaven and earth to figure out just what’s going on that no one else seems to catch. And y’all 

When everything is figured out, what Ronan does just… If you weren’t in love with him before, this moment right here will have you falling hard for him

the most subtle scene of the story. Their declaration of love has to be my favorite I’ve ever read. It was just so natural and so fitting to the characters. 

And I cannot leave behind how Ronan calls Larke “mama”. It reminded me a little of Rio from 

, but Ronan says it in a sweeter tone that melts your insides.
