Words of Radiance

From the bestselling author who completed Robert Jordan's epic Wheel of Time series comes a new, original creation that matches anything else in modern fantasy for epic scope, thrilling imagination, superb characters and sheer addictiveness. Return to a planet swept by apocalyptic storms, a world tipping into war as aristocratic families move to control the shard blades and shard plates, ancient artifacts from a past civilisation that can win wars. As the world tips into a war for control of the mythical artifacts of power made from Shard, characters are swept up into new dangers which will threaten their integrity and their lives. Huge, ideas-filled, world-spanning fantasy from a master of the genre.

Really good. It's been a long time since I first read this, so I cannot be too indepth, but I distinctly remember that the only reason why it's not 5 stars is because I was not fond of the flying combat. I've watched too many superhero movies that I have been fatigued by it. I much preferred the more restrained movements that Szeth showed in his many indoor fightscenes over the flying.

The last 20% may be the best finale I have ever read.

The natural heir to Robert Jordan, Brandon Sanderson's Stormlight Archive series hit No.1 in the US and No.2 in the UK with the hardback release of the massive second volume, WORDS OF RADIANCE. Split into two volumes for paperback this is Part One of that second volume. WORDS OF RADIANCE takes the reader even deeper into the lives of its characters as they fight for power, freedom and their lives on the extraordinary, hurricane swept world of Rosharr. Famed for his plotting, his wonderful characters and his intricate magic systems Brandon Sanderson is poised to take up the crown of Robert Jordan as the creator of the keynote epic fantasy series of its time with the Stormlight Archive.

So fully invested in this world I've actually started thinking of "Storms!" as an acceptable curse-word in my every day life. I much prefer reading these books in halves as it allows me to not feel so guilty for stopping a book halfway through as they come to a resounding and semi-conclusive resolution in my head.

The problem is, however, that I buy both books at the same time so with the endings being so encapsulating, it makes me desperately want to start the second half. But I don't want to burn out so I'm taking a little break.

Brimming with confidence, imagination and intrigue

I am absolutely loving this series and I think the books being split into two separate books particularly helps as I then allow myself a month or so in between each so I don't get burned out.

This series just keeps getting more imaginative, more intriguing and oozes confidence at every angle. What I mean by this is that Sanderson knows exactly where he's going with each story and sub-story and as a result, it is told to perfection. An absolute joy to read! Oh and Shallan is incredible.

Liked this better than the first, I think. The magic gets a lot more attention and explanation now that the world has been established, and the ending was really well done. That said, there were several plotlines that were just too arduous and slow (specifically in the middle). Was definitely a slog, but worth it in the end.

Loved the sequel— after familiarizing myself with the world in the first book, the plot was easier to follow in this book. I also felt a lot more concern for the characters in the sequel as well.

Words of Radiance: 4/5
BRUH I FINISHED IT!!! What a MONSTER of a book. This should count has two books on Goodreads.

I cant believe how good this series is when the books are so hefty. Definitely not something I felt like I would enjoy but I am absolutely enthralled & it is surprisingly easy to read. Don't be intimidated by the size, its an amazing story that'll have you BREEZING through!

Can't wait for Oathbringer :)

From #1 New York Times bestselling author Brandon Sanderson, Words of Radiance, Book Two of the Stormlight Archive, continues the immersive fantasy epic that The Way of Kings began. Expected by his enemies to die the miserable death of a military slave, Kaladin survived to be given command of the royal bodyguards, a controversial first for a low-status "darkeyes." Now he must protect the king and Dalinar from every common peril as well as the distinctly uncommon threat of the Assassin, all while secretly struggling to master remarkable new powers that are somehow linked to his honorspren, Syl. The Assassin, Szeth, is active again, murdering rulers all over the world of Roshar, using his baffling powers to thwart every bodyguard and elude all pursuers. Among his prime targets is Highprince Dalinar, widely considered the power behind the Alethi throne. His leading role in the war would seem reason enough, but the Assassin's master has much deeper motives. Brilliant but troubled Shallan strives along a parallel path. Despite being broken in ways she refuses to acknowledge, she bears a terrible burden: to somehow prevent the return of the legendary Voidbringers and the civilization-ending Desolation that will follow. The secrets she needs can be found at the Shattered Plains, but just arriving there proves more difficult than she could have imagined. Meanwhile, at the heart of the Shattered Plains, the Parshendi are making an epochal decision. Hard pressed by years of Alethi attacks, their numbers ever shrinking, they are convinced by their war leader, Eshonai, to risk everything on a desperate gamble with the very supernatural forces they once fled. The possible consequences for Parshendi and humans alike, indeed, for Roshar itself, are as dangerous as they are incalculable. Well damn, idk how he’s gonna top that ending in the next one.

Shallan gets such amazing development in this one. Such good character writing for all of them.
There wasn’t a single POV character that would get me to groan when it switch to them.
