it started quite strong, I'm not a huge romance fan but the dogs drew me in. Both protagonists were easy to love and the dogs took central stage.
Then it had to introduce drama through the the horrible horrible mother. Why is there always such an annoying character? And the treatment of the autistic son by the family was horrendous. And the worst was the sister and her horrible kids: no it's not cute, no it's not endearing, no it's not fun to read about. 
This book should have had way more dogs and way less a**hole family members.

When the dog walker hired by Carly Kennedy and Max Sheffington goes to jail, their dogs, Baxter and Hazel, end up getting switched.  Carly's investigation into Baxter's whereabouts leads her to Max's door, with Carly's abrupt behavior getting them off to a rough start, but their dogs are so into each other, that they have to make arrangements for them to meet again.  As their dogs spend more time together, Carly and Max develop an attraction for one another that turns into something more, but their families and their jobs make it difficult for them to find a way to be together.

You Lucky Dog is a cute story with appealing characters and a plot so crazy, it's a little tough to feel invested in their lives.  Much of the narrative revolves around coincidence, and a love story that takes a back seat to all of the absurdity involving the supporting characters.  While there are multiple humorous incidents, they tend to overshadow the main characters, leaving their story feeling a bit flat.  Overall, You Lucky Dog is lots of fun without a lot of substance.

I absolutely love reading any books that have dogs involved. I just love dogs, and adding romance to the mix makes a perfect romance story. Carly is having a rough life right now especially in her career. And it does not help that her dog sitter lost her dog. Who the hell does that? Who? It’s crazy but luckily Carly finds her dog again but she may not like who has her dog at all. Max is very confused about how his dog got switched. But he does know that he wants his dog back asap especially since this strange dog is very sad at the moment. But who can blame him? He is in the wrong home but luckily his owner is coming for him, and it definitely surprises Max how attached he becomes to the dog and maybe to the dog owner. You may have imagined that Carly and Max do not match with each other but the opposite does attract especially in their case. They have great chemistry for each other that you know they are meant for each other. But timing is not their factor. I kind of hate how the last part was rushed into. I wish it would slow down a bit. Like we need time to process the feeling, don’t rush us.

For his sake, she starts to spend more time with Hazel and Max, until she begins to understand the appeal of falling for your polar opposite.

I spent an agreeable time reading this book. However, I had few problems with some aspects of the story.

This story is about a romance between Carly and Max; however, I was often taken aback by how Carly's family and life are present in this book. It was sometimes overwhelming. I felt like it was a book about her, and that's all. You need to know that it's a dual POV story, but I found it inequal between the two main characters. At some point, I was questioning who's the romance was about as a side character take too much space for everyone sake.

Nevertheless, even if this put me a little off, I like three specific elements in this book. 
The first is that the construction of the story at the end is well done and change from the usual misunderstanding, which creates an argument/breakup between the lovers, which I am not a big fan of.
The second is that you have a character with a disability, and I love to see this aspect in books. We need to have more of it in stories.
Last but not least, THE DOGS. Like books with animals are always great, but here the dogs are cute, funny, and I love them both. Maybe it's also because I love long dogs with short paws :)!

Overall, it's not a bad book; just some element didn't work for me.
