Anarcho-punk fantasy is the genre I didn't know that I needed. In the first Danielle Cain book, readers are introduced to a group of anarchists who get themselves wrapped up in demon hunting. This second book features their first encounter with magical beings after setting out on the road. It's suspenseful, and deliciously unique among the current batch of urban fantasy out there. If you're looking for what fantasy can look like if it exists in today's modern world, Killjoy is providing us with some excellent, imaginative stories from the perspective of people that we often don't see in fantasy. The stakes are high, the demons suitably strange and terrifying, and there's a strain of journey fantasy in the modern world that works so very very well.
