My college adviser gifted this to me when I was accepted into the program. It was one of my favorite reads throughout college. 

The story takes place in a future long after a nuclear apocalypse. At age 5, boys are given to their "warrior fathers" who will raise them in their barracks. At 15, these same boys then choose whether to remain as warriors or return to Women's Country. We follow our main character Stavia as the story switches between the "present" where she is handling the loss of her son and the "past" where she is growing up in Women's Country.
