Not much substance, but a wonderfully fun beach read, nonetheless.

This is the perfect summer beach read! . . I know many of us are not at the beach right now (I’d even take a dock at a lake) but if you want to feel like you are being a chair out to the yard, pop on some SPF, have your summer drink nearby and sit back with this book! . . It’s 1938 and a storm is brewing out on the Atlantic. Lily Dane is at her family’s Rhode Island cottage getting ready to face old friends and lovers as families come to Seaview for the summer season. We flash back to the start of the thirties where Lily and her friend Budgie are college gals living a stress free life as the effects of the Great Depression start to trickle into their elite circle. Lily and Nick fall in love, but something stops them from getting married and it will take the summer of 1938 for the storm to blow the sand off all the secrets that intertwine the families of Seaview. . . Ooh there is drama, there are secrets so scandalous you don’t know what to believe and their are mysteries you never even knew existed. . . I was engulfed by this book and I just could not put it down. I read it in one day! I’m serious it was each chapter you were so close and yet so far you just had to know what happened! . . My only complaint is that I felt the ending was too perfect and wrapped up too neatly.

I usually don’t read historical fiction books but I had heard so many good things about Beatriz Williams that I wanted to give this one a try, and I’m so glad I did! I think it moves a little slowly, but I liked that for this book. Williams really took her time setting the tone and feel of this book. If you love family drama, messy friendships, & forbidden love, I think you should check this one out! Oh, also there’s a hurricane heading toward the island, which heightens all the drama!
