Slow start with a good finish. Not my favorite story to be truthful. It took me over a week to complete due to the story not catching my interest. I enjoyed the back drop of Hawaii but I felt the description of how magical it is was getting in the way of the story.

I've said it before and I'll say it again here today, no one writes complicated romance like Karina Halle. She proves it with every book and I fall in love with her characters every single time. It's impossible not to. 

The lush Hawaiian setting of Heat Wave was only part of its charm. But boy did it ever make me want to hop on a plane and go back to Hawaii — something I've not really been interested in because of the time it takes to get there from the east coast. Karina writes such a gorgeous picture with her writing, however, that not only do I feel like I'm there, but I also itch to go actually see it for myself. I don't know of another author who does this, so it's always one of my favorite parts of any of her books. 

I also really enjoyed the characters and the romance — with the exception of one issue near the end of the book, anyhow. I won't get into that because, spoilers, but it didn't sit well with me when it came to adult characters. Regardless, Ronnie and Logan were wonderful together. Despite their tricky past — he was married to her sister, who died in a car accident — it was easy to root for them because it was obvious they made each other better. The romance was sweet and sexy and hot enough for me to understand where the name Heat Wave came from. ;) Another winner, in my book!
