Just like with the first book, I had to bump up my rating. 

I definitely enjoyed this book more a second time. I felt like I got a better grasp of the story, character motivations, and the politics. I have a new appreciation for Griff's POV and I find it fascinating to read the perspective from New Pythos side. 

Lee and Annie become so much more compelling and the choices they have to make are a lot harder. I'm amazed at their strength with everything they have to go through. 

After reading that ending, I am so so excited to see how this series will end! This is definitely a new favorite!

WOW. This was even better than the first. It kept all of the complex relationships and political themes but kicked the plot into high gear. After the events of the first novel, Callipolis is in an all-out war, with famine and civil unrest consuming life at home. I felt breathless because the characters literally couldn’t catch a break and anything that could go wrong, did. I also felt so frustrated throughout because there was never a clear answer in terms of politics - I found myself unable to take either Lee or Annie’s side because they both had valid reasons for their perspectives. AND THAT ENDING WOW I need the next book stat
I couldn’t be prouder of both Lee and Annie on their character development from book 1🥺 I also was nervous about a new perspective but I LOVED Griff, his story broke my heart, and I think the integration of a new main character felt seamless

WOW this book was a rollercoaster! I couldn't put it down and it took over my life in a way a book hasn't yet this year. The pacing is fast and you jump right back into all the problems of Callopolis and see the characters grow all over again. I was surprised by how much I enjoyed a new POV character and how quickly I became invested in his wellbeing just as much as I care for Lee (Annie is on a whole other level for me. If there were teams, I would definitely be #teamAnnie haha). The politics and battles of Callopilis are well developed and went in an interesting direction in this book. I'm also happy that we really got to spend more time with the dragons in this book!! 

This book made me cry, laugh, yell at the characters when I thought they were doing something I didn't think they should be doing (which happened a lot!), and left me counting down for the next book! I cannot recommend this series to enough people!!!

What a book!

I was super nervous it wasn't going to live up to its predecessor. My fears were unfounded as Flamefall blew Fireborne (a book I loved) out of the water.

1. Lee and Annie grow and change on a believable trajectory--their character motivations are clear and within character. Also, their relationship is beautifully executed.
2. The complexities of revolution, government, and war are given a human face. You get to see every side and understand the shades of gray of people's actions.
3. SO MANY MORE DRAGONS. We get a lot more of the dragons and dragon fights. And they're EXCELLENT.
4. GRIFF. It is difficult to introduce a new primary POV character in a second, and Munda does a beautiful job connecting us to Griff almost immediately.
5. The world-building is *chef's kiss*. Not too complicated but also not spoonfed. However, I wouldn't mind a map at the front of the book.
6. GRIFF & DELO.
7. Duck.
8. Power. Way to make my heart shatter for a character I kind of hated all last book.
9. The plotting was great. There were times I was concerned things were about to get boring, and then we'd rocket forward into action/plot progression. 

I don't know how I'm going to wait for Book 3.
