Finally finished The Person You Mean To Be by Dolly Chugh last night (after reading Born A Crime by Trevor Noah) and I feel like I have a renewed sense of self lol In speech and action, we claim an identity by expressing how we see ourselves and how we want others to see us—and there are moments that we’re at fault and our self-threat gets alarmed. TPYMTB helps out in understanding how our biases affect the way we perceive things around us including societal, systemic issues, and injustices that happen every day, everywhere. This brought me to a perspective that we mostly put our opinions to the center and make it our truth when in fact, our truth—our reality is constructed based on what we consume, who we believe in, and how we understand ourselves. I highlighted so much from the book and I have so many thoughts about it but I haven't eaten yet so maybe I'll edit this later lol

This was way better than I expected. It was both thought-provoking and discomfiting. This book made me aware of all the work I need to do.
