           I'm sorry, but I just don't get it. The link of the title with the book seems forced, almost as if the author felt compelled to put it in the book in some way, shape, or form.

In the beginning, there are so many characters, names, and switchbacks that we lose track of who is where and doing what. Eventually, as a reader, we tend to grasp onto the two leaders and piggy, and mesh all the rest together as side characters. It gets to the point that it doesn't matter who of these characters are doing what. We just know someone somewhere is doing something. Is it the same side character as we talked about a few pages ago? I'm not sure, and it doesn't matter.

The whole ending to me was also absolutely ridiculous, as if in the event of asking how many people were killed, someone would respond? "Only two were there?" And transport them home with little to no consequence.

I'm sure it's up to us to decide how the children acclimate back into society – but still, the ending was a total drag.

Definitely doesn't live up to the hype or the expected literary novelty.

Interesting but not one I will return to.

To tell the truth i expected much more of this when i decided to read it. The book has a promising stoty but it is burned by the terrible prose. The story goes around the basic line of how humans can deteriorate if left lawless and try to govern themselves, The fact that all these terrible things are actually done by kids makes it even more disturbing. Other than that anyone can see that its a story based solely on basic archetypes such as the leader,the fat kid etc. It could have been en excellent book if the prose was better and the characters were actually build on, something that never happens. The reader id bombarded with names of boys with none of whom he can relate and none of whom goes beyond the basic characteristics and archetypes.

           okay, it’s only a 4 star because of HOW THR ENDING WENT. i loved piggy. those british shit heads DESERVE DEATH! fuck everyone but simon,piggy, and ralph! I HATE BRITISH KIDS. the facts they were dumb and thought a dead body was a beast?!? british people obvi don’t get education! the writing was nice. it was a long ass build up. i enjoyed it.

i like it a lot but it is pretty sad but it has a good theme

Well, that was one disturbing book and it carried loads of messages...
Golding used a group of schoolboys to describe a whole bigger thing "humanity" and its ways of adaptation under unstable conditions..
On an island with no grown-ups, a bunch of young boys has to survive, establishing rules to make life easier, dividing the tasks, fighting over power, using chaos and confusion to take advantage of the weak...
I didn't expect its end, at all, but is it the normal course of events? I highly doubt it...

Another book school has forced me to read. I found this book over written and drawn out. This book could have been fifty pages at most and told a better story. Come on. That being said, it wasn't the absolute worst book I've ever read, so... I guess that's a win?

Most westerners already read the book when they were young and some authors swear by it, on the other hand the critiques and reviews are polar opposites, and I decided it was time I have my own thoughts on it as well.

The story is set like any other adventure story, an unknown location, a bunch of characters and an end goal which is rescue in this case. The catch for lord of the flies is it holds a certain mystique aura from the very beginning and the third person writing style serves a lot of that.

Though it's Golding's debut novel, I find it quite intriguing and revealing of his personality and nature. The story did get rejected by many houses but eventually got published in 1954. It can be easily compared to Orwell's novels in a way.

The book tackles human nature, it beibg stripped of civilization and reason, would it still act upon solid values or just roam free like a beast? This thinking didn't spark Golding's mind from a couch in Great Britain, it happened as he served during war where he saw atrocities and in a way understood better human nature.

Many articles highlight true stories of lost boys in islands and, unlike what Golding prophecised, how they were able to survive, thus debunking the myth of primitive and beasty nature the human have. This shows that ideas can be extreme yet not completely wrong in a way.

A last detail I find catchy is the title, Lord of the flies, a title given to the mythical creature Beelzebub from abrahamic and christian mythology.

Some crown him as a Lord of hell others as a fallen angel but the fact that he is in the title of a fiction story about lost boys is what we highlight. The author refers to a beast, something feared and threatening to young boys, yet such a title that comes from mythical and spiritual beliefs hints that the only beast there is is the one we allow ourselves to see and imagine.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who is looking for an anarchist and unconventional view upon the humans.

This book captivated me from the beginning. Exploring the savagery in men was extremely compelling to me and it was so interesting to see the gradual or otherwise immediate effect it had on the boys. The many ways you can interpret this book and its symbols and so exciting to me. I love the endless themes within the book and how up until the end it doesn't stop leaving space for analyzing. These boys are so complex and yet childish at the same time and I completely fell in love with the story. These boys are everything and nothing and loved being able to look at this different perspective. Especially at this time of pandemic I find one line sticking with me the most, "I'm frightened. Of us."

I really didn't like this novel. I understood all the themes and underlying messages in it, however the writing I felt was dull. There were many moments where it was super redundant and slow. We would discuss the same point of the plot or we would stay on one event for way too long. I felt like it made this whole novel slower and I often found myself drifting from the storyline and come back a page later realizing I had missed out on nothing.

abso- fucking- lutely hated this stupid book. Had to read it for freshman English and it was so boring and uneventful. you would think kids killing each other would have a little bit more action but fuck I was so bored the entire time. It also didn't help that my teacher analyzed every single scene in the book for some type of meaning when in reality there wasn't one. HIGH SCHOOL KIDS SHOULDN'T HAVE TO READ THIS NONSENSE.
