cover thoughts: the color choice is good. the darker indigo blue goes well with the lighter yellow shades, and it really captures the feeling of being of a performance on stage. i didn’t see the cover clearly before, but now that i’m looking at it, our main character (girl in the center in yellow) isn’t on stage, she’s performing on some kind of crossroad like pier, surrounded by water. 

art style: i’m only on the first few pictures, but there’s a clear color palette to the environment. one of the things i like about graphic novels is that they understand that backgrounds aren’t that important, as long as you get across ‘there is a car here. this is a street’ and that the important things are making character details clearer.

final thoughts: the story was predictive at some points, and i saw most of it coming, but not in a way that was boring. sometimes stories that are predictable are good too though. it was nice to be distracted from the world for an hour, and the story was immersive enough that i didn’t have much trouble doing so. i also liked how we got to find out more about characters that weren’t flavia, and seeing her play piano at the end of the story, was a nice callback to the cover.

The recipes are both classic and a fresh take on old favorites. I can't wait to make the brownies and banana cream pie bars. I recommend this book.
