i’ve never read an omega verse type book and i heard a lot of mixed reviews but im so glad i read it for myself. i loved all the characters and the way i fell in love with them as the book progressed. i simply just love ali hazel wood and her writing. AND the way she included a little quote from lowes POV was so cute and i loved it.

it was an unserious & fun book 🙃

I love Ali Hazelwood, but was initially worried that this is so different from her other books that I wouldn't enjoy it. I should have known better, honestly. I loved her take on vampires, and found Misery to be funny and genuine. I loved being inside her head. This is my first werewolf book, so I don't have any to compare it to, but how could one not love Lowe? Such a strong, caring and compassionate MMC. Looking forward to reading Mate next!

i had high expectations because of booktok (this is why i do not follow book trends) so i wanted to give it a try, since i don’t usually read stuff like this. 

it’s okay i guess? i did enjoy some parts but overall it’s lacking something, it feels rushed and i didn’t really feel the romance build up between misery and lowe. i don’t like lowe (because he kept repeating the “you don’t get to speak Were language” thing like misery is 5 years old and doesn’t know what she’s talking about. “but i can survive without you misery” wow he’s kind of selfish too pick a struggle!) and misery is a bit annoying at first but her character became better gradually, at least she seeks communication.

i am so confused what kind of writing is this, is that the plot??? i’ve read better vampire x werewolf fanfics on ao3

Unserious and fantastical. Best friendship, childhood isolation, a ne’er-do-well child, and one person choosing whether the other can handle the truth for them. I have no choice but to love it on main.

This book was literally so good for the first 3/4; I mean Misery And Lowe? They had so much tension but so much chemistry and i was so obsessed with their interactions between eachother. I spent the whole day just thinking of this book, no joke. When could I pick it up again, when could I read about these two? Obviously, like all good romances, they had the break up act. It starts to get so tedious everytime this happens... And maybe I read this book too quickly because then towards the end I found the ending rushed and boring... I was so sure it would be a five star, but four is still great.

It’s clear he doesn't trust Misery, with reason: going after the only thing she's ever cared about. She's willing to do whatever it takes to get back what’s hers, even if it means a life alone in Were territory…alone with the wolf. 

✨ Strong character voice and narration. Loved seeing Misery form connections--which become relevant to her growing priorities. Absolutely adored Lowe, and the small insights into his thoughts at the beginning of each chapter was cute. The side characters, however, fall flat. I could barely differentiate the characters, especially given that the wolves form a large, nearly indistinguishable cast. Also, the villain is FLAT. You don't have to guess who it is; it's obvious there's going to be a double cross from the start.

✨ I loved that the "marriage of convenience" trope was a distraction to the true plot: a mystery. I do wish the hints had been subtle, to slowly make us think Misery didn't have ulterior motives at least for a FEW chapters. The reveal wasn't very surprising--if you've read enough mystery novels, I'm sure you super sleuths will figure it out within act one. 

✨ The pacing is steady, but as with many romance novels, things rush once there's a single moment of intimacy. It seems like an excruciating slow burn until lust is involved; then it gets messy.

✨ Hazelwood creates a unique supernatural world that fits the story perfectly, driving shared motivations on each side of a long-standing (familiar) war. 

✨ Alright, I know you're all waiting to hear it: the romance was HOT. Usually, I have zero interest in a marriage of convenience plot, but the way it's built through found family just...WORKED. I adored the banter between Lowe and Misery (gimme forced proximity + sass any day). The smut itself was...eh. I did enjoy Misery's sisterly connection, which reminded me of CC--that 'us against the world, ride or die' vibe.
