Another amazing book by Lapena. Another ending that shocked me and another book that was full of more plot twists and drama than a Christmas episode of Eastenders.
Raleigh was my favourite character, purely just for the way he handled the responsibilities of all the secrets he uncovered.
The ending left me full of pity for 16 year old Adam who used alcohol as a way to drown out his guilt and frustration at his cheating father.

i crushed this in one sitting - what a ride! this was sooo fast paced and just overall a silly, goofy time. very much a he-said, she-said, he-said, she-said, domestic thriller that never stopped. i found the ending to be quite lackluster but overall, a good time!

Do you really know your neighbors? Honestly I wouldn’t trust a single one of these characters to be my neighbor but it did make for an interesting read. Although I kind of had a (correct) guess. This author took us on so many twists and turns it was hard to keep up. Definitely recommend as long as you can keep all of the characters straight!

4.5 stars. Shari Lapena weaves another story of twisted people with lots of secrets behind their neighborly facades. And the ending? As usual, it leaves me wanting the story to continue so I can find out more. What was on that phone? What is Robert plotting? Another great read.

Second book I’ve read by her. Plot is always interesting, but I get annoyed with the characters. Not sure I’ll read more of her books after this.

This is the first Shari Lapena book I’ve read and all I can say is: HOLY SHIT. Her writing style is incredible, she’s detailed but not too wordy and lets you have your own picture of the scene in your head. There’s mystery so you can try to guess what happens, but YOU CANT. I highly recommend this book, it’s fucking phenomenal. 
The plot is so interesting and consistent. There’s family drama, neighborhood drama, twists that you don’t expect. I was nervous I’d get bored too fast, but I was happily mistaken. 
Read this. Immediately.

Me ha apasionado esta novela. Ha sido increíble.

En un tranquilo barrio residencial de Nueva York, tras un horrible crimen, los secretos y mentiras de los vecinos harán que muchas vidas y familias de tambaleen.

He disfrutado mucho esta novela. Ha sido muy emocionante y adictiva. Te mantiene atrapada con cada página y con cada secreto que vas descubriendo capítulo tras capítulo. Al principio, es todo una locura y poco a poco se va conociendo nuevos secretos y cosas de los vecinos que hará que siempre haya un sospechoso posible de la muerte de Amanda Pierce.
Reconozco que al principio me parecía sospechoso todos los personajes que aparecen porque todos parecen tener un motivo. Pero según vas avanzando y descubriendo más cosas se va viendo por dónde va todo.

Como punto negativo, me ocurre lo mismo que en la anterior novela que he leído de la autora, "un invitado inesperado", que se ha resuelto todo muy rápido y muy deprisa. Me encanta que todo vaya evolucionando paso a paso y que la investigación vaya con buen ritmo, pero me ha parecido que la resolución del asesinato ocurre muy deprisa y rápido.

Por otra parte, ESE FINAL ES BRUTAL. No me esperaba para nada ese epílogo y ha sido increíble. Me ha trastocado toda la historia y lo que ocurre. Me ha dejado con ganas de más y necesito saber si esto tendrá continuación o algo PORQUE NO ME PUEDEN DEJAR ASÍ.

"Alguien a quien conoces" es una historia adictiva, entretenida y atrapante. Te engancha desde la primera página y no puedes parar de leer. 
He disfrutado mucho de este libro y ha sido un thriller fantástico que me ha gustado mucho.

What a plot twist, I thought I knew who did it. I was 100% wrong, no matter what I couldn't figure it out till the end. This was a great read, I wasn't expecting to like it this much. But I was wrong, so defiantly going to pick up another book by Shari Lapena very soon.

Interesting plot line with an unexpected ending. Found this book to be a quick, easy read and was a good “filler” book after reading a few heavier books recently. I did enjoy it but would have liked to see more depth and character growth. Well written and did keep me guessing as to who the killer was up to the very end. However, it was almost as if it was only written on the surface and could’ve gotten deeper into the story and characters. I would recommend reading in between books as a light reading.

First off, if you're not a fan of perspective shifting through multiple characters, this book is not for you. I personally don't like books that shift from 6 different people, but to each their own. 
Otherwise, this book was good. A little predictable to someone who reads these kinds of books a lot. But still a good story. 
Well written, doesn't drag on and gives the right amount of information to keep you from putting it down.

3.5 rounded up to 4. My favorite one of Lapena's so far. Great mystery that gets into the dynamics of suburban neighbors and families. I liked that the narrative was told by all the characters' perspectives instead of just one or two. Although I was able to guess the ending partway through I still enjoyed it alot!

A Novel

Well, this certainly feels like the type of thriller I would have enjoyed in high school. I would recommend reading this though if you need a fast-paced whodunit mystery/thriller book with no complex characterization whatsoever. The characters were flat, and minus the "teenager sneaking into houses" premise, nothing else really stood out. I should also say that some events were just ridiculous. 

If you're not into books like ^that, then skip this and read Jane Harper's The Lost Man or Karin Slaughter's The Good Daughter instead. I'm rating this a 3 only because it was a quick read, and I think I laughed out loud at one point.

I liked it. I would have appreciated the author respecting my intelligence enough to not dangle an obvious clue over my head and not allow me to really glean what it is in the context. Saying "Oh, I hope person A didn't see X, that'd be horrible," but never fully telling me why I should care is like assuming I'll go, "Oh now, not X, what is X," for like the fifth time.

I also honestly didn't like the ending. The characters were well written and interesting, but the plot had some holes and they made me lose my grip on the story.
