4.5 STARS:

Taking into account that this book is decently sized, it's amazing how fast I got through this. I didn't remember how good this series was. I think having some time away from it made the books age like fine wine in my mind. I'm going to up my rating of the previous two by half a star each. I don't have too much to say. If you've gotten to this book by now, then you know what it's about. The stakes are getting really high, the world feels expansive, and I'm actually having an easier time connecting with the characters. Funny enough, not much actually happened in this book. It was a lot of catching up, set up, and reunions. Yet, I actually really enjoyed those aspects! I think it will really do a lot to make the final book a show stopper. Still, plenty of stuff was happening to keep my interest. I also have a great new ship to root for (Evan x Destin) and I think it's probably my favorite of the series.

I've already jumped into the final book, so we'll see how long it takes me. I'll just close this review by saying that I really do recommend this series if you want a YA fantasy that reads like Adult, yet is still welcoming for casual readers. Looking forward to seeing how this series ends finally!

           Marginally better than the last book but good god the pacing and narratives did not click for me. Also some real hard Eragon vibes with the dragon plotline. I like the aspiration towards an epic, continent-spanning narrative, but the jumping between characters and the tendency to cut away or montage from actual personality-developing moments made it feel shallow to me. Evan is an awesome character and his relationship with Destin rules... let them be tomorrow.....
