"It's still inside me!" he choked out."It hurts." Isqueezed my eyes shut, crying harder."Hold on to me. Just hold on to me."

"She's pretty when she sleeps," he told me. "So many nights I watched her next to me, wishing I could sleep like that"

"This means nothing" I mumbled, still snuggling into his body. 

His chest shook under my head."Absolutely nothing. l promise"

"The devil I know is better than the devil I don't, okay?"

Although what Damon said was true. Every animal bites when it's provoked.

I go home with the last image of him on that lonely third floor, the dark boy in that dark room, and I grow uneasy.

"We're only ever good, because there are consequences," told her. "Take those away, and everyone shows their true self. Kind of like taking off a mask." 

"Or putting one on," she replied. "After all, there's freedom in hiding, isn't there?"

Her voice, everything she said, who she was...Ancient at six. She'd grown up too soon. That's what she'd meant.

THIS BOOK WAS ABSOLUTELY PHENOMENAL. I highly highly recommend this book if you loved reading Corrupt ! 
Corrupt was my first dark romance book , i was so obsessed and attached to it i of course, had to get the second book from the Devil’s Night series, and all i can say it i am so effing glad i did. 


I remember reading Corrupt and I was so captivated by Kai, he seemed so mysterious and closed off compared to Michael, who the first book was dedicated to. In Hideaway, we get a glimpse in his past with the other horsemen way before they meet Rika. We meet Banks, a closed off tomboy with a firey personality. She IS the definition of bad ass. I LOVED Erika but compared to Banks .... she was a little dumb at times 😭😭 BANKS THO ... she was smart and detailed and her backstory, as well as Kai’s broke me. 

This book IS A PAGE TURNER. I read it alll night and even woke up early to read it some more. The mystery and kind of the plot of this book seemed a bit dragged on to me, but the tension between Kai and Banks is what kept me 😳 I love them so much 😭😭 I cant wait to read Kill Switch the third book !! 

All I can say is, Kai Mori has my heart.

god, i had to re-read it for the 4th time; sometimes my brain just kept going to kaibanks and to devil's night in general, so i just knew that i had to read it again and pdouglas… i love you istg-
the constant tension between kai and banks bc of her relationship with damon & the little insides of will & damon friendship as well nik's relationship with damon and seeing michaelrika crumbs agh AMAZING. everything fan-fucking-tastic.

- "And a Devil's Night, so long ago, when a boy who used to be me hunted a girl who might be like Rika in a place that just may be that very same dark hotel out the window right now. But unlike tonight, he didn't stop."

- "We all need to face him, especially Will. He's floundering without Damon."
"Damon tried to kill him," 
"Yeah." "His best friend tried to kill him."
"We're his best friends."
"Damon and Will were always closer.""Just like the two of us are closer. Will needs Damon. You know he's spiraling. He needs to face him. "

the book feels rushed and confusing, a little bit, because i feel like there are so much plot hole around. it's like we're jumping from here to there. i kind of think there's gonna be incest storyline between banks and damon, lol. though there are no scenes that indicates it. it's just the energy, you know? also, it feels like more connected to damon than kai and banks.

not sure how I feel about this one, I had high expectations after corrupt but this just didn’t hit as hard. Love Kai with all my heart but the book was hard to get through also felt like it jumped a lot and was hard to keep up with

I actually loved this book so much more than I did the first. Kai was immediately much more fascinating and getting to see another relationship dynamic between a horsemen and Damon was interesting. Wasn't too much of a fan of Banks, I found her a bit insufferable at the start, but as the story progressed I guess I could tolerate her. This felt like it had more of a plot than the first, with romance feeling more like a sub-plot which I love since I can't really stand romances in themselves. This kept me entertained the whole way through, rather than me feeling obligated to finish the book to see when they inevitably get together.

Okay, Hideaway, here we go. 
Did I mention how much I love the back and forth in Timelines? I enjoy it so much because if Penelope knows how to do one thing that is engaging her readers. I love how it leaves me with questions and keeps me turning the pages. 
The introduction to Banks’ character was brilliant and I loved her character from the getgo. She is feisty, loyal, sharp, and overall a powerhouse of a woman. 
Kai, on the other hand, doesn’t do it for me. Don’t get me wrong, I like his character and all but what can I say? I am not obsessed with him the way I am with Banks and other characters in this series. 
Speaking of other characters...The star of the show (apart from Banks of course) in my opinion was Damon. I have such a soft spot for Damon. I have nothing to say for myself except that I am a sucker for villains.
I have been living and breathing for this series and this series only the past few days and looking forward to the rest of it. See you in Kill Switch.

Hideaway is the second book of the Devil's Night series and man I am in LOVE with this series so far and what Penelope Douglas has built with these books. And I normally don't go for the super hyped reads, however, I will say that these books are definitely worth all of it and more. There is such intrigue and depth of emotion that just creeps up on you within each installment. Hideaway is Kai's book and after the first book, I didn't know what to expect with his book to be honest. And what Hideaway builds into is NOT what I thought would turn out for his book but despite the fact that it went a way I didn't see coming, I was all for the journey of Kai and Banks and seeing their romance blossom.



Hideaway begins with taking us back and forth between the present and past of Kai and Banks. Kai and Banks first meet when Kai and his friends ruled high school, and they meet in a church and form a bond of sorts. There is a connection between them but there is one complication, her brother and confidant, is none other than the villain in the story....Damon. Banks has kept herself from truly being seen as a woman, and hides herself away behind boys clothes. There is a bond between Banks and Damon, but one that has been kept hidden away for many years. Kai and the others know that Damon is the enemy, and a threat, but they also know that Banks is key to some answers. But as tensions build up, Banks will have to choose between two men that hold her heart.....the brother and the lover. Will Banks be able to choose or will she risk losing them both?



Hideaway is a story which is guaranteed to tear through all of your emotions in all the best and worst of ways imaginable. In the beginning, the story does start a bit slow, and to be honest, flashbacks just aren't my favorite thing to read in a romance, I can be too impatient and I want to get to all the good stuff (haha) However, there is a unique element in which this author implements them that gravitates me so completely. I was so drawn into Kai and Banks romance and seeing all the sexy angsty banter that builds between them. One thing you can be guaranteed with a Penelope Douglas, is that her stories will always deliver and entertain especially in ways you won't see coming. I will say that Kai and Banks never ceased to entertain, they definitely have their issues and secrets but in the end, they are willing to fight for each other when it truly matters which is what makes this such a beautiful story at the end of the day. And man do I need Damon's book, because his story is going to be some wild sauce.



Overall I found Hideaway to be such a dynamic of a romance, it offers depths of perception, wilds of intrigue and thrills, secrets that know no bounds, family bonds that go deeper than expectations, and truths that are revealed that will deliver shocks and delights and a story that is guaranteed to deliver in all the ways that matter.

Banks - i fucking love banks, she carried this whole book on her back. I do feel really sorry for her though, she’s had to fight or hide her whole life. Only ever having Damon to rely on until Kai. She’s a bad ass though and slayed with her comebacks and fighting spirit.

Kai - … i’m ngl, his show of behaviour was not impressive. going into this book kai was 1000% my fave … now he’s 3rd and the only reason he’s not third is because he’s hotter than michael 😭 He was just a bit boring and lacked personality in this book but he also acted really strangely and sometimes badly throughout.

Alex - SHES SO AMAZING she’s such an underrated characters, she’s always knows how to act around people and truely could be anyone’s biggest friend / supporter 

Damon - there’s too much to say tbh (bare in mind i’m writing this review after  reading kill switch so some options may be biased). Does he scare me ? Yes. Do i also feel angry at him about Banks? yes. Do i still empathise and feel sorry for him? yes. He had to raise Banks completely on his own when he was only a kid himself. He was just trying with all his power to not let her go through the things he had to go through. He did what he did out of love and what he thought was best for her even though it really wasn’t <3🪦“

The plot … idk, i am ngl, can’t remember  a single thing that happens in this book. It was way too slow paced and took me 6 DAYS to read. That’s the longest it’s ever took me to read a book, i really struggled to find interest in reading it. 

I felt like the chemistry was lacking between Kai and Banks, i wasn’t necessarily rooting for them to get together . 

There wasn’t as much tension and thrill in this book for me in this book. The spice wasn’t even that exciting to make up for it. I felt like this book was just a bit … idk boring 

Even still i loved reading about Banks and her adventures, flashbacks and thoughts. Kai just disappointed a bit, just not for me <33

i don’t feel any chemistry between kai & banks, it’s too bland & forced😕 and it feels like this book is more focused on damon rather on the supposedly main characters, but i ain’t complaining because i got to understand damon better yk🥲 i love the meaning behind “hideaway” though that was so cool! and LOL the horsemen (-damon) are so bad at handling the conflict plsss😹😭 and i love the last chapter LIKE WILL AND THE DOGS???🥹 sign me tf up
