Alexandra Horowitz observes dogs for a living. Her research began over two decades ago, studying dogs at play, and continues today at her Dog Cognition Lab at Barnard College. She is the author of "Inside of a Dog: What Dogs See, Smell, and Know" (2009), a #1 New York Times best seller, and four other books: "On Looking: A Walker's Guide to the Art of Observation" (2013); "Being a Dog: Following the Dog Into a World of Smell" (2016); "Our Dogs Ourselves: The Story of a Singular Bond" (2019); and, most recently, "The Year of the Puppy: How Dogs Become Themselves" (2022). She lives with her family of Homo sapiens, Canis familiaris, and Felis catus in New York City.
