Ce livre du grand rabbin de France contient, sous forme de discours et de conférences, d'articles et de messages, des prises de position en faveur du sionisme et de l'État d'Israël. Il s'agit, par le choix de ces textes, de rappeler des faits essentiels et de rétablir la vérité historique. D'abord, et avant tout, il faut montrer l'existence d'un attachement de près de quarante siècles de l'âme juive à la Palestine. Terre promise par Dieu aux Hébreux, la Palestine est devenue, grâce à Moïse, la patrie où ceux-ci firent souche et où se déroulèrent les grands événements bibliques aux diverses époques de l'Histoire sainte. Plus tard, après que les Romains eurent occupé Jérusalem en l'an 70 de notre ère, les juifs pieux ne cessèrent jamais de prier pour le retour à Sion. Le nom seul de Jérusalem éveillait dans leurs cœurs les plus profondes résonances religieuses. C'est dire que le sionisme ne date pas du siècle dernier : il a ses lettres d'ancienneté et de noblesse. Par ailleurs, cet ouvrage nous décrit l'action menée dès le milieu du XIXe siècle par les juifs français pour le renouveau de la Palestine. An account of the Finaly Affair, concerning the eight-year struggle (1948-53) to return to their Israeli relatives two Jewish children hidden in France during the Nazi occupation and converted after the war to Catholicism by their French trustee. Kaplan, the former Chief Rabbi of France, was directly involved in the case, succeeding in the return of the children through his negotiations with representatives of the French Catholic Church. Annexe 2 (pp. 69-86) contains excerpts from Rabbi Kaplan's 1977 interview with Pierre Pierrard on his participation at the 1947 Seelisberg meeting for reconciliation and dialogue between Christians and Jews.
